LOWER COST AND INCREASED PERFORMANCE FOR ODU'S NEW MAC LC (SMT VERSION), POWERED BY DSM'S STANYL FORTII
ODU Steckverbindungssysteme GmbH, a leading connector manufacturing company in Mühldorf, Germany, has selected high performance Stanyl® ForTii™ from DSM Engineering Plastics for its latest ODU MAC LC (Modular Attachable Connector rectangular – Low Cycle Version), which was developed specifically for PCB – termination without frame. The ODU MAC LC (Low Cycle) series is part of a highly economical modular system, capable of delivering up to 5,000 mating cycles. The application requires a high temperature plastic material suitable for SMT (Surface Mount Technology) soldering and with excellent electrical properties.
Mr. Stefan Franzl, Productmanager from ODU Steckverbindungssysteme Gmbh says: "Stanyl ForTii was selected because it offers a range of essential characteristics including excellent electrical properties (CTI-600V), Halogen free flame retardent V-0@0,4mm excellent processing compared to PPA, including good flow, faster cycle times.” Moreover, Stanyl ForTii is specially designed for reflow soldering supporting both SMT and Pin in Paste assemblies. The part is used in medical equipment, machine construction metrology etc. The MAC ODU is a flexible and powerful connector which can carry up to 370 contacts with an applied voltage of 2500V and 30A. Its main advantage is that the use of Stanyl ForTii helps to reduce time and cost.
Frank Eberlen, Account Manager at DSM says: “Since Stanyl ForTii was introduced by DSM last year, it has seen a tremendous market pull and today it is commercial in various surface mount Electronics applications all around the world.” His colleagues Patrick Duis and Jacques van Loosdrecht, Application Development Engineers add: “To serve the market demand for such a halogen free high performance polyamide, DSM quadrupled available capacity by building a second production plant.”
Stanyl ForTii offers a unique balance of properties including excellent dimensional stability, high stiffness and mechanical strength at elevated temperatures, high melting and glass transition point as well as excellent processability in terms of flow and processing window. Unique properties of Stanyl ForTii include its excellent reflow soldering ability, which is better than PPA, very high toughness and pin retention values which are better than LCPs, stable
and fast processing, very good electrical properties (CTI 600V), low moisture uptake and proven lower corrosion on molding equipment compared with competitive products. More details can be obtained at www.ForTii.com.
