FOR AUTO INTERIORS, TRW AUTOMOTIVE ELECTRONICS & COMPONENTS GMBH RELIES ON DSM FOR BROAD, VERSATILE PRODUCT PORTFOLIO, RESPONSIVENESS AND EXPERTISE

TRW Automotive Electronics & Components GmbH, a manufacturer of automotive air registers and other interior components, depends on DSM Engineering Plastics to meet the varying needs of Tier 1 suppliers and automotive OEMs. DSM Engineering Plastics, as a top solution provider to TRW, offers a broad and deep portfolio of high-performance materials, exceptional technical expertise for application development, and the agility to respond to requests for special orders or rapid delivery.

"The design and performance of air registers have a big impact on consumers’ impression of the dashboard and interior of a car,” said Dirk Lauhoff, Product Development Leader of TRW. “To meet our automotive customers’ needs for innovative, high-quality components, TRW developed In Mold Assembly, an injection molding process which produces an assembly of separate components which are firmly joined together but able to move. All components are molded parallel in one tool on one injection molding machine within one cycle. The success of this process depends on a materials supplier with the right thermoplastics, backed by world-class technical support. We have found an excellent partner in DSM. The company has provided invaluable assistance in the success of this initiative.”

TRW leverages several DSM materials for air registers and other components. Xantar® C, a blend of polycarbonate and acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (ABS) for covers and housings, offers the highest flow in its class plus high impact strength. Its low outgassing improves the auto interior environment by reducing odor and fogging. Akulon® Ultraflow polyamide 6 provides exceptional rigidity and best surface quality for horizontal vanes. And Arnite®

polybutylene terephthalate combines high strength and rigidity with excellent processing for vertical vanes.

“Our partnership with TRW is founded on close collaboration,” said Loek Ribberink, European Sales Manager Automotive. Our ability to quickly respond to special requests, our reliable service, and our expertise in material selection, application development, and processing optimization help TRW meet the diverse demands of its customers.”
