Dureal opens first commercial adblue filling station in Spain at La Jonquera

Barcelona, 5 April, 2005 – The first commercial adblue filling station in Spain was officially opened today at La Jonquera. This is one of Europe’s biggest truck stops, located on the AP7 / N II, the main route connecting Spain and France. The filling unit for adblue, used as a reagent by SCR equipped heavy duty diesel vehicles to comply with the Euro IV emission standards, was supplied by Dureal™ and will be operated by Tortuga.

“Our station and truck stop are situated next to one of the most important motorways for road transport in the country,” explains Josep Guaus Director of Tortuga. Now, with the first Euro IV compliant vehicles starting to be operated by international operators, we recognized early on and reacted quickly to the need to provide adblue to trucks conveniently. We are excited to be the first in Spain to provide this service on a commercial basis.”

“We chose Dureal, as its offering is the most advanced and complete,” Guaus continues. “The units are fitted with telemetry that tracks and reports each dispenser’s supply of adblue, to help prevent out-of-stock situations. The telemetry also monitors and controls temperature to protect against freezing of the stored contents, and the units also provide credit card and other retail payment options. This made it the most convenient solution for us and the people operating the station.”

“We are very proud to be the first to open a commercial filling station for adblue in Spain,” says Patrick Lammers Managing Director of Dureal. “This is the first of a series of filling units that will be operated across Spain, while also the number of filling stations on Europe’s motorways is on the increase. The first public adblue filling stations have been opened in Germany, Austria, the Netherlands and Sweden, and access to adblue is expected to steadily increase, as most oil companies are working with Univar or other suppliers to install dispensing units at their petrol stations.”

Dureal not only offers purpose-built storage and dispensing units for petrol stations, but also on-site units for transport and bus companies, enabling them to refill vehicle tanks prior to departure. For small and medium size operators, Dureal has developed an advanced base unit, with a capacity of 1250 liters, which can be expanded with an additional 1000 liter feeder unit, as well as a professional starter set, based on 200 liter drums with an electrical or hand pump. All Dureal dispensers are fitted with telemetry that tracks and reports each dispenser’s supply and quality of the content. Thanks to telemetry and Dureal’s integrated logistics, users don’t need to worry about the timely delivery of new supplies.

The adblue supplied by Dureal is a high-purity, urea-based reaction fluid used in SCR catalytic converters. This technology has been adopted by most of the major European truck and bus manufacturers, including DAF, DaimlerChrysler, Iveco, Renault and Volvo, to ensure compliance with the stricter Euro IV and Euro V exhaust emission standards.

These standards, which will apply to all newly-registered vehicles, will come into place in 2005 and 2008. The fluid is injected into the exhaust system before the catalytic converter from a separate tank located under the vehicle. It converts harmful NOx into nitrogen (a natural constituent making up 80% of atmospheric air) and water vapour, without any deterioration in engine performance.
