Univar and Texaco joint-venture partners close agreement for the supply of Dureal™

Univar NV, the world’s largest distributor of chemical raw materials, and the joint venture partners of Texaco Netherlands have signed a declaration of intent for the installation of Dureal™ storage units and tank installations for AdBlue at the fuel service stations they operateand at companies who use on-site tank facilities.

With the exception of the direct supply to fuel service stations along main roads, Texaco Netherlands has concluded a joint venture for the distribution of fuels, lubricants and such with a number of local partners. These are DGV BV (Alphen aan de Rijn), Schreurs Oliemaatschappij BV (Venlo), Salland Olie Maatschappij BV (Hasselt), Combitex BV (Oosterhout), Nijol Oliemaatschappij BV (Nijmegen), BOHA Oliemaatschappij BV (Heiloo) and Post Oliemaatschappij BV (Harlingen). In their respective regions they supply their own service stations as well as service points at companies in the transport, agricultural and construction sectors.

“We are very pleased with the promises of the partners of Texaco to take the plunge with us,” says Jacques Voogt, Director Innovation & Development for Univar, who is responsible for the development of the Dureal concept. “With their fuels they hold an important market share in the transport sector that is so important to us. This means that we are able to set up a network that covers the whole of the Netherlands in one go.”

Dirk Offringa, Director of DGV BV and spokesman for the Texaco partners, is also enthusiastic about the agreement. “This implies that we will be the first in the Netherlands to offer a complete AdBlue package. We have examined various options and Dureal came out as the best total service solution.”

“The Dureal system of Univar is equipped with a unique telemetry system. This ensures that the storage tanks at our clients and fuel service stations are automatically refilled, without them having to do anything. There are also small emergency packs available for drivers who are likely to find themselves without AdBlue at some time. With this we can offer our customers a complete package for the new generation of clean diesel engines that will be available from the end of this year,” adds Offringa.

AdBlue is a non-poisonous reagent liquid that is used so that heavy-duty diesel engines can meet the strict Euro IV and Euro V exhaust gas emission standards that will come into force in 2005 and 2008. The fluid is injected into a SCR catalyst from a separate tank under the vehicle where it causes harmful NOx to be transformed into nitrogen gas, which occurs naturally in the air, and water vapour, without any reduction in the engine performance. The amount consumed is about five litres per 100 litres of diesel oil, but thanks to this substance a considerable fuel saving per kilometre driven can be achieved.
