Univar closes distribution agreement for Amerchol Corporation performance chemicals throughout Italy

Univar S.p.A., a member company of Univar N.V., one of the world’s leading independent distributors of industrial chemicals and providers of related specialty services, has been appointed distributor of Amerchol Corporation’s performance chemicals to the Italian market.

Amerchol Corporation, a subsidiary of The Dow Chemical Company, is a global manufacturer of performance chemicals for use in personal care applications. The agreement with Univar S.p.A., which came into effect on April 1, covers distribution of Amerchol’s full product line, consisting of emollients, moisturisers and conditioners, throughout Italy.

“The addition of Amerchol to our producer portfolio enables us to offer customers a significantly broader range of choices and advantages,” says Silvio Scarpanti, Managing Director, Univar S.p.A. “We have over 400 active customers in the personal care industry and with the inclusion of Amerchol among our quality suppliers, we are now able to serve them from a basket of more than 1000 products.

Univar S.p.a., which has had a business relationship with Dow Chemical for more than 40 years, sees this latest link in its distribution chain as completely synergistic with its existing representations and a positive reinforcement of its presence in the cosmetics and personal care market.

“The Amerchol products are highly complementary to those already in our line-up,” says Scarpanti, “and bring with them a high level of brand recognition.” Among more than 100 Amerchol skin and hair care ingredients these include GLUCAMATE™ thickeners and emulsifiers, UCON™ emollients, UCARE™ polymers, BIOCARE™ polymers, KYTAMER™ chitosan derivatives , POLYOX™ water-soluable resins, CELLOSIZE™ specialty cellulosics.

This deal complements an existing agreement with Anstead International, the dedicated personal care division of Univar UK, who have been distributing the Amerchol product range for over 10 years in the United Kingdom, and demonstrates Univar’s comprehensive ability to support leading manufacturers as a pan-European distribution partner.

Headquartered in Milan, Univar S.p.A. supports customers through offices located in Mestre, Bologna and Florence, as well as Milan, in addition to four warehouse and distribution centres strategically positioned to serve the whole of Italy.
