TotalEnergies extends its Polyethylene range with a new Very Low Linear Density Polyethylene grade, enhancing recyclability of stretch hood applications
Brussels, Belgium, October 15, 2024 – As one of the leading producers of metallocene polyethylene (mPE) in Europe, TotalEnergies completes its range of mPE with a new Very Low Linear Density Polyethylene (VLLDPE) grade. This new grade, named Advanced Supertough 12AST05, extends an already very complete range of metallocene polyethylene grades going from very low-density grades (0.912 g/cm³) up to high-density grades (0.960 g/cm³).
With excellent mechanical and optical properties (haze = 5% gloss 45°= 70) as well as very good sealing behavior, the Advanced Supertough 12AST05 grade can address a wide range of film applications. This VLLDPE grade can also be used in formulations aiming the replacement of Ethylene-vinyl Acetate (EVA) grades to enhance the recyclability of stretch hood applications.
Advanced Supertough 12AST05 is also fit for flexible packaging welding applications thanks to its sealing initiation temperature that is 2 degrees below market standard, enabling to reduce the costs of production by lowering the quantity of plastomers in the welding layer.
“This new grade is a great demonstration of our innovative developments supporting our customer to improve the packaging recyclability. The end goal is to bring more qualitative product on the market that is then used as feedstock for the recycling industry.” said Olivier Greiner, Vice President, Polymers Europe & Orient at TotalEnergies.

About TotalEnergies and Polymers
TotalEnergies develops, produces, and commercializes polymers — polyethylene, polypropylene, polystyrene, their recycled equivalents, and biopolymers — that can be incorporated in the plastics manufacturing process. Lighter than many alternative materials, they help reduce the carbon footprint of end-use applications through enhanced energy efficiency. TotalEnergies’ polymers experts in Europe, Asia and the United States of America are working alongside all the professionals in the value chain, including plastic manufacturers, research centers, waste collection and sorting companies, and their customers to accelerate in the circular economy. The Company is developing different plastic recycling processes and using renewable raw materials, with the ambition to reach 1 million tons of circular polymers by 2030.
