TE Connectivity Introduced Components and Systems for Indoor Applications at Light + Building Show
HARRISBURG, PA., USA – March 24, 2016 – TE Connectivity (TE), a world leader in connectivity and sensors, highlighted new developments in components that facilitate installation and improve performance and reliability of indoor lighting at the 2016 Light + Building Expo in Frankfurt, Germany, which took place from March 13 to 18. TE showcased their LUMAWISE LED holders, modular poke-in connectors, slim wire-to-board connectors, NECTOR S, and the NECTOR M Power System.
LUMAWISE LED holders offer a high level of integration by mechanically securing and electrically connecting chip-on-board (COB) LEDs to all sorts of luminaires without the need to solder. Sockets allow the LED to be directly attached to a heat sink using two standard screws. Secondary optics can also be quickly attached to LUMAWISE LED holders. Wires are attached via integrated poke-in termination. High-reflectivity, heat-resistant thermoplastics are used for the housing materials.
TE offers three types of LUMAWISE LED holder: Type Z, Scalable, and Customized. Type Z LED holders are designed to enable customers to develop Zhaga-compliant modules. (The Zhaga Consortium is an industry-wide cooperation enabling the interchangeability of LED light sources and simplifying LED applications for general lighting.) The Scalable LED holder platform enables connectivity to a wide range of LED arrays and is available in pre-assembled one- and two-piece configurations for high design flexibility. Finally, TE offers a variety of custom LED holder solutions optimized for use with manufacturer-specific LED arrays.
Modular Releasable Poke-in Connectors provide a compact solution for wire-to-board connectivity. The poke-in feature allows for easy and fast installation, while a flexible solution is enabled by the connectors’ modular low profile, high density and compact design. Connector pitch is 4.0 mm. Typical applications are in LED lighting, telecommunication systems, security and various other wire-to-board applications. Modular Releasable Poke-in Connectors are available in a variety of different colors, which can be customized upon request.
The Slim Wire-to-Board Connector, which has no housing, serves as an easy poke-in connector with strong retention ability. The conductor can be connected quickly without special tools, and the connector’s small profile saves space on the PCB. Different designs are available for solid and stranded wire from 16 AWG to 24 AWG. The connectors can be used in LED lighting systems, home automation, security systems and in telecommunications.
The NECTOR S Line Connector is a small, power-to-luminaire connector designed to meet the lighting industry’s need for a compact, easy-to-install interconnect solution. This 7.5-mm connector can fit into openings just 8 mm across, much smaller than many other connectors require. The NECTOR S Line Connector is ideal for applications where a power connection and coupling between lamps is needed. Targeted applications include lighting wiring in furniture, offices, kitchens, bathrooms, display cabinets, mountable lightings.
The NECTOR S Line Connector facilitates error-proof installation with a fully pluggable interconnect solution, and provides maximum design flexibility with both high and low voltage versions in the same footprint. Savings in material cost, time and space are achieved with a six-way distributor that provides power to multiple luminaires from a single source.
The NECTOR M Power System is a flexible, fully pluggable, modular wiring, connector and cabling system for permanent power electrical installations. It provides a reconfigurable, plug-and-play alternative to traditional hard-wired electrical connections, seamlessly integrating into new and existing designs.
The round design of the NECTOR M Power System connectors drastically reduces installation time, especially compared to rectangular connector systems in nearly any indoor installation. Electrical contract manufacturers can engineer, design and build power distribution units, electrical devices and cable assemblies off-site, so on-site labor costs are cut and efficiency and reliability are improved. Applications include lighting and power distribution in residential and commercial buildings.
