SCHAFFHAUSEN, Switzerland – November 24, 2014 – TE Connectivity Ltd.(TE) (NYSE: TEL), a world leader in connectivity, will be at SPS IPC Drives 2014 to demonstrate and reinforce its position as a leading connector company in the industrial space. The company is on Booth 210 in Hall 10 at the show, which runs from November 25 - 27 in Nuremberg, Germany. Several developments in recent months illustrate TE’s commitment to the sector, as well as the innovative progress it is making.

TE Industrial Senior Vice President and General Manager Thomas Schmidt and Chief Technology Officer, Ulrich Wallenhorst recently outlined how TE’s global know-how and leadership in various industries can help to make the difference for industrial customers. According to Mr. Schmidt, TE is well positioned to deliver solutions to customers that address key industry trends, thanks to its extensive experience and technologies developed across a vast range of applications.

“Leveraging our overall technical capabilities helps us to be different in a marketplace looking for efficiency, productivity, reliability, decentralization, faster communication, smaller equipment, and long life time,” he says. “We are able to deliver ground-breaking technologies and innovations to our customers.”

TE’s product portfolio reflects the company’s strategy to serve customers in both factory automation and machine building: “We have the product connector portfolio to meet the needs in both these areas,” says Schmidt. “They range from standard connectivity solutions for PCBs, control cabinets and machines through to highly specialized and unique solutions.”

One such technology is the ARISO Contactless Connectivity Platform, a move into smart connectivity, which addresses the need for reliable connections in situations and environments where traditional connectivity reaches its limits due to space restrictions, vibrations, dust and dirt—while at the same time offering 360 degrees of flexibility. First introduced in 2013, this innovative technology is now finding its way into first applications and has been nominated for the 2014 Automation Award at SPS IPC Drives this year.

TE leverages its expertise across various segments to the advantage of industrial customers. Technologies it has developed to meet requirements in data communications are now being deployed in its industrial products. Examples include:

  • Cat6a connector, which combines TE’s unique experience in tool-less field termination with excellent signal performance;
  • Common Core strategy, in which TE applies standard proven data communications connector technology in combination with a wide range of Industrial IP proof housings, from latched versions through to push-pull solutions;
  • Industrial Mini/IO connectors– a system quickly gaining traction and which is now being considered as a true industrial alternative to RJ45, as it has no issues with micro-interruptions in industrial environments.

New strategic appointments

TE Connectivity has also been investing in people. It has for example made several new important appointments in key strategic positions in recent months:

Oliver Seiger is the new Director Product Management for TE’s Automation & Control business, responsible for formulating and executing strategic plans to develop product lines and launch new products. He also has responsibility for Product Strategy and Design. Seiger comes to

TE Connectivity from Weidmüller Interface, where he led the Electrical Connectivity Division, heading a global team of specialists in R&D, product and projection management, and marketing.

Manuel Huesken joined TE Automation & Control as Head of Sales EMEA. He leads the EMEA sales strategy to drive revenue growth and customer satisfaction. Before joining TE, Mr.Huesken was Executive Vice President, Sales & Marketing, for Medium Power Solutions at SMA Solar Technology, where he was also responsible for the markets in Americas, Middle East, Africa. Prior to SMA he was Director International Sales at Rittal GmbH & Co. KG, with a long experience in Sales especially in the developing markets and in setting up regional company structures.

Dr. Thomas Paral joined TE as Senior Manager, Advanced Development, in the Industrial business unit. Michael Tiegelkamp is responsible for TE Connectivity’s global Industrial Automation & Control Product Development and Life Cycle Engineering Teams. This is another new position. Mr.Tiegelkamp ensures that competencies and resource capacities meet the demand for standard products and customer-specific developments, collaborating with all departments to identify and develop innovative products for future growth opportunities. He was previously head of R&D for Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure at Siemens.

Strengthening ties with partners

TE is seriously expanding its reach in the industrial world, says Ulrich Wallenhorst: “Our strategy is to work very closely with our customers to provide the broadest portfolio of connectivity and sensing solutions. TE’s deep OEM relationships, unparalleled go-to-market resources, engineering strength, leadership in harsh environment applications, and global footprint are the underlying factors that will drive our growth and establish us as a competent partner to our customers.”

Over the last 12 months, TE experts have been collaborating with the Fraunhofer Institute IWU Munich—Europe’s largest application-oriented research institute—to enable environmental improvements in the field of the “Resource Efficient Factory.” The Fraunhofer Institute is a pioneer in the field of resource-efficient production research. TE has been focusing on energy and cost saving projects that will shape technology in this area.

Thomas Schmidt also highlights TE’s continued strategic engagement with distributor TTI Inc., which will extend the geographic reach of TE products throughout the EMEA market. “On top of this, in line with our strategy to offer a broader product portfolio, the recently announced acquisition of Xiamen Delixing Electric Equipment Co., Ltd. (“Delixing”) and Xiamen SIBAS Connectors Co., Ltd. (“Sibas”) not only enhances TE’s market presence in China, it also strengthens our position in harsh environment connectivity solutions,” he says. “Combining the capabilities and geographical reach of both TE and Delixing/Sibas will enable us to offer our customers some of the most comprehensive products, technology and services within the industry.”

Mr. Schmidt concludes: “Our investments in product development, in our people, and in our enhanced engagement with other key players in the field will together help us to better serve our customers around the world.”
