Solutia and Employees Donate Over RMB 295,000 to Assist in Earthquake Relief Efforts
Company Donation Bolstered by Personal Employee Contributions from Around the World
SHANGHAI (May 30, 2008) – Solutia Inc. (NYSE: SOA), today announced that its Chinese subsidiaries as well as employees from several Solutia sites are donating more than RMB 295,000 to aid relief efforts for victims of the 8.0 magnitude earthquake that struck the Sichuan province of Central China on May 12, 2008.
“The devastating impact of the earthquake has been felt around the world and has moved people throughout our Solutia family to action,” said Paul Liu, Asia Sales Director, Solutia Inc. “In this time of need, it is important for communities and corporations to lend a helping hand, and I am proud to see the employees of Solutia join in the effort to assist in these relief efforts.”
Of the more than RMB 295,000 that is being donated, RMB 100,000 is from Solutia’s Chinese subsidiaries and the rest is from personal donations made by Solutia employees at sites in China, Belgium, and the United States. Of these funds, over RMB 135,000 has been donated to the Shanghai Red Cross and the remaining funds are being donated to various organizations involved in earthquake relief efforts.
Solutia employs approximately 200 people in China. It has two manufacturing sites in Suzhou as well as offices in Shanghai and Beijing.
