Battenfeld presenting a new drive concept
Battenfeld Extrusionstechnik GmbH, Bad Oeynhausen is the first manufacturer of extruders to introduce a new, innovative drive system for torque and screw speed control in all of its extruders. The most remarkable feature of these high-performance, so-called CMG compact drive motors is their reduced size compared to conventional cylindrical gear drive systems.
The CMG compact drive systems consist of four asynchronous three-phase motors. The power of each motor is transmitted to a central drive wheel via a pinion shaft, so that these four motors function simultaneously in a similar way to one “normal” asyn-chronous three-phase motor. Since this is a coaxial drive system with a hollow shaft, it requires no coupling.
One main advantage of this new drive concept is that it takes up about 50% less space. Another remarkable feature is a significant reduction in sound pressure, due to the small rotor diameters of the individual asynchronous three-phase motors, and consequently their low peripheral velocity. Additional special properties of the CMG drives are their low vibration, their optimized cooling systems, and higher system security.
