New Slitters Contribute to Conversion Quality Trimless Rolls

Newly designed BGE slitters eliminate scrap and increase savings Trimless rolls, those produced without removing the edge of the film before it is wound, can be a real challenge. The material and cost savings that result from the lack of edge trim, can make it an enticing niche to some film manufac-turers. Producing quality film, at the highest possible first pass yield, for con-verting operations makes the difference between success and failure in many markets. The rolls need to be flat, smooth, compact, tight from end to end, and ready for high speed printing and converting. Reliable equipment and a stable bubble are critical. This is where Battenfeld Gloucester’s blown film lines con-tribute to this success.

3,000th TM completes Slovenian success story

PR0020 Skaza Image01 Plastika Skaza and Battenfeld Injection Technology recently had cause for a special celebration in Velenje, when the 3,000th injection molding machine of the TM series was officially handed over to the customer. Velenje, with just over 30,000 inhabitants, is located in the centre of the Šalek valley, to the north-east of Ljubljana, the Slovenian capital. Since 1975, Velenje has been the home of Plastika Skaza, which has emerged as one of the country’s largest commission plastics processor. From a modest beginning, the company has seen continuous growth since 1985 and now manufactures parts for well-known companies, such as Gorenja, Ikea and Grammer, with 41 injection molding lines - 35 of these from Battenfeld.

High-precision sandwich molding from Battenfeld

PR 16 Image 1 The secret of success in sandwich injection molding is hidden inside the molded parts: the use of less and lower-priced materials without compromis-ing quality standards. Injection molders taking advantage of this potential achieve a significant increase in cost-efficiency for their products. Among oth-ers, a Spanish Battenfeld customer, a well-known manufacturer of toilet seats, has seized this opportunity. In the near future he will take delivery of a new HM 10.000/7.700 + 7.700 BM B4 injection molding machine. It will be the eighth multi-component injection molding system from Battenfeld supplied to this company. This particular customer has become the market leader in Europe with the help of cost-efficient co-injection technology. The Battenfeld sand-wich system process technology has been optimized to the point of achieving a tolerance margin of only +/- 5 g for shot weights of 4,000 g.

American Maplan's new heater is like money in the bank for extruders

Small changes to machine design can yield big savings for processors. This point was underscored recently when extruder manufacturer American Maplan Corp., McPherson, Kansas, made a seemingly minor design change to the screw oil heating element installed on most of its profile machines. The new design reduces the amount of electrical power needed for each heating unit by 20%, to 7.6 watts from 9.5 watts, with no trade-off in process performance. The result, says VP Sales Kurt Waldhauer, is potentially reduced energy consumption, a 50 to 60% increase in heater life, and a decrease in machine maintenance.
