- Green Cities Award recognizes its significant contribution to the energy effi-ciency of award winning “Green Towers” renovation project
- ECOPHIT® products assisted in earning credits towards both the DGNB® and LEED® certifications
- ECOPHIT® delivers the right solution to make air conditioning in buildings more comfortable, efficient, and environmentally friendly
Meitingen, August 25th, 2014 - ECOPHIT® radiant ceilings have been awarded the prestigious Green Product of the Year Award by Green Cities India. The Green Cities Forum 2014, held on June 20th in Pune, is organised by Elets Tech-nomedia and is designed to engage and promote the efforts of experts and influencers driving the Green building movement in India. The award was granted to this eco-friendly carbon-based radiant cooling system for the way it was successfully applied in a ceiling construction, using ECOPHIT® panels, achieving multiple green benefits. The award also recognises the material’s significant contribution in earning credits towards both the DGNB® and LEED® certifications.
The “Green Towers” project in Frankfurt, became one of Europe’s most prominent green building reno-vations as the 121,522 m2 building was transformed into the most environmentally friendly, as well as the first renovated LEED® certified high-rise building in the world. The result: two skyscrapers designed to use 55% less energy and 74% less water than before, reducing its CO2 emissions by almost 90%. The successful renovation also created a new workplace environment that enhanced productivity and em-ployee satisfaction.
ECOPHIT®, which is now available throughout India, delivers the right solution with innovative compo-nents made from natural graphite that make air conditioning in buildings more comfortable, efficient, and environmentally friendly. From the working atmosphere in office buildings to the living comfort in hotels, from an optimal interior climate in public buildings to travel climate in airports: ECOPHIT® en-sures more efficient air conditioning in every building.
Speaking on behalf of the SGL Group, responsible for marketing ECOPHIT® throughout India, Richa Thakker, Key Account Manager, said: “To date, the “Green Towers” is the greatest refurbishment of a building undertaken in Europe and ECOPHIT® is really making a difference. In this application we have helped to achieve a 55% drop in electricity consumption, saving a total of 19.8 GigaWatt hours (GWh), which corresponds to the electricity used annually by approximately 1,900 family homes. We have sup-ported the realisation of a 74% saving in annual water consumption, enough to fill 22 Olympic-sized swimming pools. Additionally, heating and cooling requirements have been reduced by 67% and the air exchange rate can be reduced from 6 down to 1.5 times the volume.”
Mohamed Alami, Managing Director Marketing and Sales, added: “This award underlines the excellent fit and great potential ECOPHIT® has for more ecological and economical air conditioning solutions in a fast growing India market. We have put an infrastructure in place to enable countrywide access to our state of the art technology and additionally to provide support to consultants and architects to design and implement in accordance with the local building requirements and regulations.”
According to Elets Technomedia, India is one of the top five countries leading the green building movement around the world and has over 2,380 registered green building projects. This building stock is anticipated to increase four fold from around 2.3 billion m2 to over 9 billion m2 by 2030.
Radiant ceilings neither warm nor cool the ambient air. They radiate their energy directly to the person. In effect this means that the desired temperature is achieved without draughts and dust swirls. Moreo-ver, the indoor climate is perceived as markedly more pleasant.
SGL Group’s ECOPHIT® offers a complete solution for energy efficient temperature control in buildings. A natural product made from graphite, ECOPHIT® offers outstanding design freedom, cost effec-tiveness and maximum climate control for sustainable and modern new build and renovation projects. The performance of this outstanding and energy-efficient technology can be observed in numerous buildings in Europe and all over the world.
