Recommissioning of SABIC’s PPE operations at Bergen Op Zoom creates local employment opportunities

  • Recommissioning of PPE resin operations in Bergen op Zoom expected to increase global production of NORYL resin by more than 40%.
  • 59 operators, service and process engineers, analysts and shift supervisors anticipated to be hired by mid-2019.

AMSTERDAM, THE NETHERLANDS, February 14, 2019 - Last year, in response to customer needs, SABIC announced plans to recommission operations at its Bergen op Zoom PPE resin plant in the Netherlands with a phased ramp-up in production across 2020 to produce polyphenylene ether (PPE), the base resin for its line of NORYL resins and oligomers. Increased customer demand for NORYL resin – used in a vast range of industries such as water management, automotive, solar, industrial and electrical – prompted the capacity expansion plans.

Recommissioning the PPE facility at SABIC’s Bergen op Zoom site will provide customers with a second source of NORYL resins globally, and affirms SABIC’s commitment to the European market and global customers who specify their material solution needs from Europe. When operational, the Bergen op Zoom facility is expected to add more than 40% global capacity of NORYL resins over a 2017 baseline, as SABIC continues to focus efforts to deliver the right capacity, in the right global locations, at the right time to support customer needs.

As a result, the Bergen op Zoom plant is now actively recruiting to fill 59 skilled manufacturing positions to support PPE operations by mid-2019, including operators, service and process engineers, as well as shift supervisors and production analysts.

Dieter Hollmann, General Manager and Site Director, SABIC Bergen op Zoom, stressed the fact that every applicant should share a commitment to safe operations and delivering a quality product. “We have a well-deserved reputation for safety and reliability, based on our 45-year track record. We have this record thanks to our motivated employees, and their strong focus on teamwork and safe operations.”

To facilitate the application and hiring process, a special landing page has been created on SABIC’s Bergen op Zoom website [http://www.sabic-bergenopzoom.nl/nl/carriere/sabic-en-onderwijs] with job descriptions, application instructions and helpful links. SABIC will be holding a series of recruiting events in the community which will be publicized on the website.

“SABIC Bergen op Zoom is a great place to work, offering challenging jobs in an international environment with plenty of opportunities for the right people,” Hollmann said. “We invite those who are interested to apply, or to attend one of our recruiting events to learn more.”

The fact that SABIC will be filling 59 roles locally is viewed as a boost for employment in the West Brabant region, according to Barry Jacobs, Councilor of Economic Affairs. “SABIC is obviously an important local employer, and it’s wonderful to hear that the company is making further investments in the Bergen op Zoom site. This signals great confidence in both the site and the local workforce.”
