PPG hosts customer day with color, environmental themes

SUZHOU, China, April 23, 2008 – PPG Industries (NYSE:PPG) recently held a customer day event themed “Dream Your Color, Protect Our Earth” at its consumer products coatings technical center in Suzhou.

Charla Serbent, PPG general manager, industrial coatings, Asia-Pacific, Gordon Charles, PPG sales director, consumer products, Asia-Pacific, and other executives explained how aesthetics, performance and environmental responsibility are central to PPG’s research and development for consumer coatings. Technical experts demonstrated products and technologies such as CeranoShield anti-scratch, UV-curing coating; ElectroClear water-based cathodic coatings; antiseptic, lead-free, low-volatile organic compound (VOC), silver-based antimicrobial coating developed with Agion Technologies; and multicolored ELECTROCOLOR coating that combines ElectroClear coating and Andaro nanopigment technology.

PPG also discussed its advanced technologies, comprehensive customer service and worldwide production.

“Every year, PPG invests millions of U.S. dollars in developing improved products, processes and technologies to meet market demands,” Charles said. “We have a long history of developing and marketing energy-saving, environmentally-responsible products. In fact, more than 31 percent of PPG’s global sales in 2007 were of ‘green’ products, and we continue to emphasize research and development to help minimize our impact on the environment.from products, processes, energy consumption and emissions.”

The Education and Communication Department of the State Environmental Protection Administration has said PPG demonstrates a good sense of social responsibility. “PPG takes the reduction of greenhouse gas emission and energy consumption as an important element of its global strategy and is committed in environmental protection, energy saving and emission reduction in investment and construction, product development, production and application, as well as active cooperation with the local government and media. Our local enterprises could learn a lot from all the above practices.”

PPG operates three manufacturing facilities and a technical center in Suzhou. Serbent said PPG chose to locate in Suzhou because many of its customers, especially in consumer electronic products, are located here, “so we can provide comprehensive quality and timely service.” PPG’s technical support team offers local customers color matching, application training, lab testing, troubleshooting and process design services to help maximize their operational efficiency.

PPG consumer electronics coatings protect 3C products such as computers and cell phones, and the company also supplies leading global electronics and appliance manufacturers such as Nokia, Motorola, Sony Ericsson, Dell, Logitech, Toshiba, NEC, Lenovo, Haier and Whirlpool.
