Owens Corning Composite Solutions

Biography David T. Brown, President & Chief Executive Officer Owens Corning

David T. Brown was named Owens Corning’s president and chief executive officer effective April 19, 2002. Preceding this appointment, Brown was the chief operating officer for the company, where he was responsible for all operating businesses of Owens Corning worldwide.

Prior to becoming COO, Brown was vice president and president of the Insulating Systems Business, which is the largest sales and profit center within the company. It includes fiber glass, rockwool, acoustic, OEM and foam insulating products made at 35 manufacturing plants in North America and China. Under his direction, all aspects of the business experienced consistent growth in sales and profits.

Since 1978, Brown has held a variety of managerial positions in sales and marketing at Owens Corning. In January of 1995, he was named vice president and president of Building Materials Sales and Distribution, with responsibility for the company’s North American sales organization and distribution channels. As vice president and president of the Roofing and Asphalt Business in the early 1990s, Brown is credited with returning this business to profitability after many years of lower-than-average returns. Today this business is one of Owens Corning's most profitable businesses.

Brown joined Owens Corning in 1978 after working for Procter & Gamble, Shearson Hammill and Eli Lilly. He is a past board member of the Asphalt Roofing Manufacturers Association Executive Committee, National Roofing Contractors Association Advisory Board, Thermal Insulation Manufacturers Association and Executive Committee of the North American Insulation Manufacturers Association.

Brown is a 1970 graduate of Purdue University with a bachelor’s degree in economics. He and his wife Nancy reside in Toledo, Ohio, and have two children.
