MOOG NEWEST MACHINE CONTROLLER SERIES 600 (MC600) IS FAST, FLEXIBLE AND MODULAR

AMSTERDAM, 10 November 2010 – Moog Inc., a specialist in high performance motion control systems has introduced its latest, advanced new Machine Controller for machines in a variety of industrial applications. Designed specifically to combine flexibility with ease of use for high performance control, Moog’s latest generation controllers are easy to configure and modular in design. The Moog Machine Controller includes a CPU with fast processing speed, a range of digital and high resolution Analog I/Os, sensor modules and integrated temperature control as well as various fieldbus communications modules. For greater flexibility a range of HMI’s (human machine interface) are offered, including one directly-driven by the Controller or a separate PC-based HMI. All modules are programmed in the same programming environment which is the easy-to-use Moog Application Software Suite.

The controller runs on a multitasking Linux-based real-time operating system that offers fast reaction times and high frequency execution of tasks. Fast-sampling analog 16-bit I/O resolution and 2 Mbit/s sensor acquisition provide the basis for highly accurate control and positioning.

The Moog Application Software Suite used in this system is based on the latest version (3.4) of the proven CoDeSys development tool. It complies with the IEC 61131-3 standard for programming languages and it features additional libraries, plug-ins and programming capabilities created by Moog engineers that are ideally suited for a variety of general industrial applications including injection molding, blow molding, packaging and metal forming machines.

The modular design of the Moog Machine Controller means that it can be configured exactly according to the specific application. For greater flexibility, it can be used both in a centralized and decentralized control architectures. Special modules and software libraries are available for customer-specific solutions (e.g., parison controls in blow molding, injection molding) and a complete software library of easy-to-use application templates is available for simplified realization of user-specific control and sequence application.

An important feature of this controller is its ability to operate in the extended temperature range -20°C (-4°F) to +70 °C (158°F). This combined with the low power consumption technology and robust construction of the modules make Moog’s newest Machine Controllers ideal for use in demanding environments such as industrial machinery.

“Our new MC 600 machine controller is easy to use and delivers fast, flexible and highly efficient performance,” said Jürgen Weiblen, Product Line Manager at Moog Industrial. “It can be tailored to suit particular user-requirements and it is backed by Moog’s extensive industry expertise and our global support capability, offering great value for our customers around the world,” continued Weiblen.

The Moog Machine Controller Series 600 replaces the current M400 series, offering considerably greater functionality and flexibility. It can be used for a range of general industrial machine controls, especially where requirements include fast cycle time, high precision and maximum flexibility. Designed as an integral part of Moog’s existing industrial servo controller and software offering, it is compatible with the Moog family of electric products such as Motion Controllers, Servo Drives and Servo Motors as well as its extensive hydraulic product portfolio. It is supported by Moog’s global team of application engineers around the world.
