New Escalol HP from ISP improves UV protection and provides for healthier more manageable hair

In-Cosmetics 2004 exhibition held in Milan, April 27-29 provided the backdrop to the launch of the latest innovative products from International Specialty Products (ISP), a world-leading supplier of specialty ingredients. Specially featured in the company’s presentation at the show was Escalol® HP, a new ingredient that brings improved protection for hair against the harmful effects of the sun’s UV radiation.

Hair is highly susceptible to chemical changes that occur with exposure to the sun. UV-B radiation damages hair chemistry, cleaving its disulfide bonds and decomposing its tryptophan. This results in the alteration of cuticle cells, increased porosity and a roughening of the hair’s surface, making it increasingly difficult to comb and leading to hair breakage.

While conventional sunscreens offer protection against this damage, they are limited to leave-in products that give hair a heavy feel. Escalol HP brings a step-advance in technology to provide hair with protection against harmful radiation but without adding the weight consumers perceive as an issue. Significantly, Escalol HP provides up to 49% reduction in disulfide bond cleavage and reduces tryptophan degradation by as much as 25%.

Designed as a free flowing, 100% active powder, Escalol HP is an easy to handle, lightweight ingredient capable of being formulated into a full range of both leave-in and rinse-off products. Among others these include shampoos, conditioners and deep conditioning treatments, as well as shine enhancing sprays and glossing serums. In these applications Escalol HP provides hair with continuous guarding against UV radiation without weighing it down.

Critically, Escalol HP provides consumers with tangible performance benefits. Because of its cationic nature, Escalol HP is substantive to hair, giving protection but leaving it feeling clean and natural. Whether used in leave-in or rinse-off formulations, hair retains its softness and it looks and feels younger and healthier. Importantly, Escalol HP delivers outstanding combability and the potential to reduce the effort required for combing by 50%.
