Micropitch™ mold technology increases preform output

Husky helps molders increase outputs and reduce preform costs

Bolton, Ontario, Canada – Husky Injection Molding Systems has introduced two new Micropitch molds. The 144 cavity mold will be on display at K 2001. Husky’s new 72 cavity molds are already in production at customer sites. The design of these new molds allows mold cavitation to be increased in 300 and 600 ton machines. Increasing cavitation is one of the most effective ways of increasing output while reducing preform costs.

The new 144 and 72 cavity systems provide significant gains over conventional PET systems. In the case of the 144 cavity mold, system output increased by 50% over a 96 cavity, 600 ton system. Plus, Husky’s new 144 cavity mold fits into existing Husky 600 ton machines. The same holds true for the 72 cavity system, which showed gains of 50% over conventional 48 cavity, 300 ton systems. And once again, the new 72 cavity mold fits easily into existing Husky 300 ton machines.

“These molds use our Micropitch stack design,” says Reinhart Dravetz, Product Manager in Husky’s Index Systems group. “This stack accommodates preforms with thread finishes up to 30 millimeters in diameter.”

There are a number of options available with Husky’s new 144 cavity and 72 cavity molds to further improve outputs. They include:

  • Patented 3-position take-off plate

  • Patented CoolJet technology

  • Optical part detection
