HUNTSMAN PIGMENTS UNVEILS NEW EASY-FLOW TiO2 PIGMENT TO THE EUROPEAN COATINGS INDUSTRY

Huntsman Pigments introduces DELTIO™81X pigment, the first in Huntsman’s revolutionary range of easy–flow DELTIO™ titanium dioxide (TiO2) pigments to be designed for the coatings industry. This new, low dust TiO2 pigment combines outstanding powder handling, brilliant whiteness and excellent durability making DELTIO™81X pigment an ideal choice in a number of industrial coatings applications including powder, protective, coil and automotive coatings.

MANUFACTURING BENEFITS

Huntsman’s experience in powder flow technology has been applied to develop the outstanding powder handling properties of DELTIO™81X pigment to offer manufacturers a number of benefits over conventional powdered TiO2 pigments, including high throughput, accurate metering, low dust and less waste. All this has been achieved without the addition of any chemical binders.

Flow

The high, consistent mass transfer rates of DELTIO™ products are clearly illustrated in the graphs. With DELTIO™ pigment, metering is more precise than with typical TiO2 pigments and equipment can be cleaned faster at product changeovers.

Low dust

Manufacturers are conscious of the need to improve the working environment for employees and are looking for ways to achieve cleaner manufacturing environments. Consequently a low dust TiO2 powder like DELTIO™81X pigment offers major benefits.

Brilliant whiteness and durability

Huntsman uses a precisely controlled manufacturing process that minimises unwanted chromophores to achieve the brilliant whiteness of DELTIO™81X pigment. Huntsman classes its DELTIO™81X pigment as “super durable”, a TiO2 pigment with excellent resistance to weathering (gloss loss & colour fading).

A WINNING COMBINATION

Scott Wright, Customer Solutions Manager at Huntsman Pigments, noted that customers have been able to use DELTIO™ pigment interchangeably with existing TIOXIDE® products, he said: “They have observed tremendous benefits in terms of processing and cleanliness of the working environment and in the amount of time their operators can spend doing value-adding activities rather than trouble shooting problems that typically arise from handling TiO2.”

In the pre-launch phase, customers compared DELTIO™81X pigment with TIOXIDE®TR81 pigment. Some of their comments are noted below:

“We achieved up to 15% increase in output from our powder coatings line.”

“We could transfer DELTIO™81X pigment 20% faster through our pneumatic system.”

“We could see a dramatic reduction in the amount of dust generated”

“We used DELTIO™81X pigment without any adjustments to our formulation.”

Carlo Giubardo, Huntsman Pigments New Business Development Manager in charge of the DELTIO™ brand said: “DELTIO™81X pigment offers our customers an opportunity to radically improve their manufacturing processes without compromising optical performance”. He added: “DELTIO™81X pigment offers a winning combination of outstanding powder handling and low dust properties with excellent durability, whiteness & gloss”.
