HUNTSMAN PIGMENTS SHOWS CLASSIC COLLECTION OF TIOXIDE® PIGMENTS

Huntsman Pigment’s success in bringing to market its next-generation DELTIO™ titanium dioxide (Ti02) pigment was achieved in no small part thanks to the experience and expertise it has built up over more than seven decades of development and production of its TIOXIDE® pigments. The company is illustrating several of its flagship products on its stand at K 2007.

Among these is TIOXIDE® R-FC5 pigment, designed specifically for use in plastics applications. Introduced 30 years ago, it is still regarded as an industry standard.

TIOXIDE® R-FC5 pigment is a fine crystal rutile pigment that imparts very high brightness, a blue undertone and high opacity. Its siloxane treatment ensures both low moisture pick-up and outstanding dispersion properties, so that it can be incorporated in both liquid and melt systems with minimal effect on viscosity. The versatility of TIOXIDE® R-FC5 pigment makes it suitable for use in a broad range of products. It is mainly intended for masterbatch for packaging products, for styrenic compounds, and non-weatherable compounds in PVC and polypropylene.

Since its introduction, this pigment has benefited from continuous manufacturing improvements, which have enhanced performance and ensured consistent optical properties.

Huntsman’s tried and tested TIOXIDE® R-TC30 grade, has the additional advantage of exhibiting very good resistance to antioxidant yellowing. Pigmented polyethylene may yellow during processing or in use outdoors, as a result of a reaction between the pigment and an antioxidant. An optimized coating on TIOXIDE® R-TC30 pigment minimizes this effect. The pigment also provides excellent whiteness in rigid PVC, which has an inherent slightly yellow colour.

A more recently developed ‘reference’ grade for the plastics industry is TIOXIDE® TR28 pigment. Recommended for use in polyolefin masterbatch, its high thermal stability also makes it ideal for plastics that are processed at high temperatures.

With TIOXIDE® TR28 pigment, masterbatchers can dispense with lubricants when producing highly loaded masterbatches using internal mixers. Nor are lubricants required when using twin screw extruders.

At K 2007, Huntsman Pigments is also exhibiting TIOXIDE® TR81 pigment for high performance coatings and TIOXIDE® A-HRF pigment for PET fibres

DELTIO™ is a trademark of Huntsman Corporation.

TIOXIDE® is a registered trade mark of Huntsman Corporation.
