Honeywell’s Fluorine Products Group Names Vice President

Honeywell has appointed Richard V. Preziotti as Vice President & General Manager of its Fluorine Products business worldwide. Mr. Preziotti will be responsible for driving the fluorine business forward, which includes Honeywell’s refrigerants and blowing agent businesses.

Mr. Preziotti joined AlliedSignal in 1991 as a Financial Analyst in the Industrial Fibers division. He moved into AlliedSignal’s Fluorine Products division in 1994 in a Business Development role. Subsequently he held positions as Business Leader, Sterilant Gases and Commercial Director for all of Fluorine Products Europe based in Brussels, Belgium and Business Director for Industrial Fluorines.

Mr. Preziotti also served as the Vice President for Business Development for AlliedSignal/Honeywell’s Specialty Chemicals division. His most recent role was as Vice President & General Manager of Honeywell’s $450 million Specialty Wax & Additives Business based in Morristown, NJ.

“This is an exciting and challenging period for Honeywell Fluorine Products worldwide, said Preziotti. “We have established a leadership position in the air-conditioning and refrigeration industries with our next generation, long-term HFC products, AZ-20 and AZ-50. Furthermore with our comprehensive range of environmentally safer refrigerant solutions and outstanding technical expertise we are well positioned to grow our market leadership.”

Honeywell’s AZ-50 is an azeotropic blend made up of two components; HFC-125 and HFC-143a. Since it is an azeotrope, the components will not separate in the installation, making servicing easier. AZ-50 gives a high level of efficiency and its performance and characteristics are similar to R-502.

AZ-20 is Honeywell’s patented long-term replacement for HCFC-22 (R-22) in newly designed home air conditioning systems. AZ-20 is a near azeotropic mixture of HFC-125 and HFC-32 (50/50); two chlorine-free hydrofluorocarbons that have zero ozone-depletion potential. Moreover, as well as being more environmentally friendly than HCFC-22, the higher capacity of AZ-20 brings greater energy efficiency to units optimized for its use.

And, because it offers better heat transfer than HCFC-22, it potentially reduces system costs.

Enovate™ 3000 (HFC-245fa), Honeywell’s new generation, non-ozone depleting blowing agent for foam processing, is proving to be an exceptional alternative for a number of industries. Applications for Enovate 3000 include, for example, board stock, appliances and spray foam. Enovate 3000 blowing agent is designed primarily to replace hydro chlorofluorocarbon (HCFC)-141b, which is used in a variety of rigid insulating foams.

2001 is a critical year for the European and US foam producing industry with the phase-out of HCFC-141b scheduled for 2003. Honeywell is committed to meeting the long-term needs of the industry and confirms that its new full-production commercial Enovate 3000 manufacturing facility in Geismar, Louisiana, is on-target for start-up in the 2nd half of 2002.

Honeywell Fluorine Products is part of Honeywell’s Specialty Chemicals business, a world leader in the manufacture and supply of specialty and fine chemical products for a diverse range of applications. Honeywell Fluorine Products pioneered the development of fluorocarbons used in environmentally safer refrigerants and foam blowing agents. For more information, visit www.honeywellrefrigerants.com.
