Severn Trent Metering Services Ltd. is a world leader in water metering technology, with products ranging from solid-state water meters, water meter reading systems, and water meter chambers to installation solutions. With Lexan* SLX EXRL0086 resin, the SmartMeter SM150 translates into a state-of-the-art device in flow measurement, which remains accurate in water metering measurement over its lifetime.
GE - Plastics & Severn Trent Metering Services Ltd.
“The SmartMeter SM150 is one of our breakthrough products. It allows high accuracy and long life metering at an affordable price, and Lexan SLX resin helps deliver that promise, “ says Neil Furmidge Engineering Director of Severn Trent Metering Services Ltd.
The SmartMeter SM150 allows customers to read the water meter throughout the lifetime of the device. The use of Lexan SLX resin results in a low Yellowness Index (YI) shift, retention of transparency as well as the retention of mechanical properties, as compared to standard polycarbonates.
The SmartMeter SM150 also has no moving parts, which translates into continued accuracy during the product’s lifetime.
GE - Plastics tested the performance of Lexan SLX resin against conventional resins. Lexan SLX resins offer superior UV resistance when compared to standard UV-stabilized -polycarbonate grades. The increased UV resistance translates into minimized YI effects.
Over time, mechanical meters fail or under-record due to wear and the effects of particulates. SmartMeter’s solid state, no-moving parts design ensures that metered flow, and income remain accurate over time.
With no mechanical parts to jam or wear out, the SmartMeter has none of the complications of conventional water meters.
Severn Trent Metering Services Ltd. offers a whole-life care option on the unit, delivering accurate water metering for over 20 years (three times the life of some conventional water meters), producing excellent cost savings over the lifetime of the product.
Increased chemical resistance is another top quality of Lexan SLX resin. If lenses are not able to withstand the petrol fumes over an extended period of time, lens casings may become loose, causing the lenses to crack.
Additionally, Lexan SLX resin features superior high temperature and impact strength, making it an excellent material of choice for Severn Trent Metering Services Ltd.
