Eastman Chemical launches Optifilm Enhancer 300

The latest addition to the Eastman Coatings Film Technologies Portfolio of Coalescents

Eastman Chemical Company today announced the release of Optifilm Enhancer 300, a low odour, zero VOC coalescent for the European architectural coatings market. Optifilm Enhancer 300 has a boiling point greater than 250 degrees C, which classifies it a non-VOC according to European Union Directive 2004/42/EC.

Optifilm Enhancer 300 optimises coatings performance in several key areas:

• Delivers low odour properties.

• Improves film formation over a wide range of temperature and relative humidity.

• Improves formula cost by allowing substantial reduction in associative thickeners by over 25%, without compromising performance.

• Improves film application properties including touch-up and scrub resistance.

Optifilm Enhancer 300 is the result of customer-centered initiatives that help formulators meet VOC directives and consumer preference for low odour. More importantly, they can accomplish this without compromising formulated cost and performance,” according to Joost Berting, general manager of Coatings, Europe, Middle East, and Africa. He adds, “We’re enthusiastic about the opportunities to leverage Eastman’s robust coalescent technologies across a wider-range of application requirements.”

Optifilm Enhancer 300 is part of the company’s newly established Eastman Coatings Film Technologies portfolio of coalescents. The portfolio is designed to provide coatings chemists more formulation latitude to optimise performance whilst balancing customer preference with current and anticipated environmental regulation. Building on the global success of industry-leading Texanol Ester Alcohol, Optifilm Enhancer 300 offers lower odour and comparable performance in many applications. In North America, where Optifilm Enhancer 300 is considered a VOC, Eastman is offering Optifilm Enhancer 400. Eastman EEH solvent, a fast evaporating, efficient coalescent that provides better surface hardness faster, rounds out the European portfolio.
