Capewell to exhibit military aircargo system with Dyneema® at ILA Berlin Air Show Hall 9, Booth 9213

27th May – 1st June 2008

DSM Dyneema, producer of Dyneema®, DSM’s ultra strong polyethylene fibre that offers lower weight while increasing protection in air cargo equipment, will be present at this year’s ILA Berlin Air Show together with Capewell Systems. Dr. Dietrich Wienke, market development manager for Aviation & Aerospace at DSM Dyneema will be available for personal meetings during the show.

At the Berlin Air Show 2008 a military version of an air cargo net made from Dyneema® will be launched together with a new pallet made by Capewell systems. This military net made from Dyneema® fibre delivers top level performance in demanding circumstances.

The use of ultra-strong, lightweight Dyneema® polyethylene fibre from DSM Dyneema for braided pallet nets and Dyneema® fabric for air cargo container components reduces fuel consumption and protects the climate while doubling the useful life of unit load devices (ULDs). Weight reduction in cargo handling equipment means an aircraft can either carry more revenue-generating loads or save on fuel. Also, ground crews can handle this lightweight equipment more easily, speeding up loading and unloading of cargo for faster turnarounds.

DSM’s Dyneema® fiber offers significant advantages over traditional ULD materials such as aluminium and fabrics (polyester, PVC). Its exceptional strength-to-weight ratio – which has produced the world’s lightest (8 kg or 18.3 lb) cargo pallet net – helps cut total aircraft weight and reduce fuel consumption. In addition, it enables the use of thinner, lighter nets and fabrics that allow more cargo to be carried, increasing profits and improving ergonomics. The excellent abrasion resistance and ability to withstand UV and chemical degradation of Dyneema® fibre helps protect shipments and the aircraft itself while increasing safety and reliability of air freight movement. DSM Dyneema is working with global suppliers of aircraft and cargo equipment to develop new ULD technologies for today and tomorrow’s challenging aviation environment.
