HIGH QUALITY EPDM WITH ADDITIONAL BENEFITS: INTRODUCING “WHITE” KELTAN® 4551A
Heerlen, 20 August 2008 – DSM Elastomers is to introduce a new range of Keltan® EPDM grades, produced with high quality colorless paraffinic oil, instead of yellow paraffinic oil.
The first of these new grades, Keltan 4551A, is currently under commercial approval at customers with development code DE 3072 and is expected to be commercially available from September 2008. Test results indicate that the product offers improved efficiency in peroxide curing and is suitable for a wide range of applications including low hardness profiles, hoses, seals, bellows, bull-eyes. In addition, it offers new opportunities for colored products and applications.
Keltan 4551A is the beginning of a new era for the complete product range as the use of yellow paraffinic oil will be phased out over the next year. Other grades that will switch to white oil are K708x15, development code Keltan DE 6531A and K512x50, development code Keltan DE4331A.
Performance and properties
New white grades of Keltan offer all the benefits of standard yellow oil grades. The specifications and main characteristics remain unchanged. Apart from the high quality colorless paraffinic oil, the new grades also offer superior peroxide curing.
Niels van der Aar, Keltan Global Product Manager gives an example: “With equivalent compound mixing and rheology, new Keltan 4551A is able to offer improved peroxide cure efficiency whilst peroxide loading may be reduced by more than 30%.”
