Clariant Highlights Three New Biopolymers for Skin and Hair at NYSCC Suppliers' Day 2012
- Address market demand for products based on natural ingredients
- Deliver an exceptionally gentle feel to skin and hair
- Meet major environmental standards
Charlotte (USA), May 15, 2012 - Here at the New York Society of Cosmetic Chemists (NYSCC) Suppliers' Day, booth #601, Clariant is showcasing three new lines of biopolymers that are active ingredients and sensory boosters for skin and hair care. These innovative, vegetal-based products can help customers in the personal care industry meet consumer demands for new choices based on natural ingredients. With the theme "Touch of Nature," the Clariant exhibit highlights Vitipure™, Velsan® and Zenvivo™ biopolymers, all of which are extracted from fungal sources that are not genetically modified and are of consistent quality, traceable and renewable.
The company also announced that it has achieved Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) certification according to ISO 22716 for its global cosmetics manufacturing operations.
“Sustainability is the foundation of our new business strategy, today and into the future,” said April Yeager, Clariant’s head of Personal Care, North America. “Providing our customers with innovative, natural ingredients provides an advantage in formulating new products to address changing consumer demands.”
Early reports from customers trialing the materials suggest that Clariant’s vegetal biopolymers outperform synthetic and animal-based products in sensory properties. They deliver a gentle feel to skin and hair. The new biopolymers also demonstrate excellent environmental compliance: Vitipure and Zenvivo products are certified by ECOCERT, the leading accrediting organization for organic products, and they comply with GMP under the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the European Medicines Agency (EMA), with Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) and with ISO 9001:2008.
- Vitipure repairs and protects skin, reduces wrinkles, boosts elasticity and firmness, and rebalances and hydrates skin.
- Velsan provides a natural, vegetal replacement for silicones in skin care, repairs and coats hair in haircare products and creates a stable, creamy foam with a pleasant, soft touch.
- Zenvivo is the only available vegetal chitosan. The low molecular grade of Zenvivo reduces odor in mouthwash and deodorants and boosts preservation in cosmetics. The high molecular grade is a film-former in hairstyling and sun care products and cosmetics, and provides conditioning performance in skin and hair care.
Clariant Sites Earn GMP Certification
Clariant’s production sites for cosmetic ingredients in Brazil, Germany, China and the United States have been awarded GMP certification according to ISO 22716. Further, the company aims to certify the remainder of its personal care capacity during 2012-13.
Yeager noted, “This certification further underscores our commitment to the personal care industry and positions us for future growth.”
Ensuring globally harmonized products and processes for the personal care industry is part of Clariant’s strategic repositioning of its Personal Care business to be a leading provider of superior-quality products. Also key are acquisitions and partnerships with top players such as KitoZyme and Oberhausen Technology Center. Clariant will continue to explore similar opportunities to enhance its capabilities and to transform sustainable, innovative technologies into cost-efficient products.
