Borouge offers student scholarships at the Beijing University of Chemical Technology in China

Borouge, a leading provider of innovative and value creating plastics solutions, announced scholarships for students studying at the Beijing University of Chemical Technology (BUCT). These scholarships announced at the Chinplas 2010 exhibition in Shanghai provide undergraduate students the opportunity to excel in their polymer sciences and engineering studies, thereby supporting the rapidly developing plastics industry in China.

Fourteen undergraduate students from BUCT will be awarded Borouge scholarships, mainly based on the individual’s academic performance. As part of the scholarship each year one to two of the students will be given the opportunity to train at a Borouge location for two weeks, thereby obtaining hands-on experience in an innovative environment.

“Investment in education is critical in building a sustainable and solid industry especially one which has a strong focus on innovation,” said William Yau, CEO of Borouge’s Marketing Company. “We hope that the Borouge Scholarship Programme will contribute to attracting motivated, highly-skilled talents and enhancing the Chinese petrochemicals industry in China.”

“The Borouge Scholarship Programme provides a real motivation to our students,” commented Ren Xingang, Vice President at the Beijing Chemical Technology University. “We sincerely appreciate Borouge’s initiatives and efforts, which we believe will greatly benefit the development of skills and talents necessary for the growth of the plastics industry.”

Borouge also offers an International Scholarship to a high performing student aiming to further their polymer sciences and engineering studies at the Master or Doctorate level.

BUCT has been selected by Borouge due to its leading edge education in plastics and polymer engineering disciplines and joins the South China University of Technology in Guangzhou and the East China University of Science and Technology in Shanghai as well as the University Institute of Chemical Technology in Mumbai, India and the Indian Institute of Technology in New Delhi, India, in the programme.

Founded in 1958 and consisting of 9 Schools including Chemical Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, Mechanical and Electrical, Information Science and Technology, Economic Management, Science, Humanities and Law, BUCT has paid great attention to its scientific research. It has built 15 research institutes and eight research centres including the National Research Centre for Carbon Fibers, the Ministerial Research Centre for Membrane Engineering and Technology, the Ministerial Centre for High Gravity Technology, and the Key Laboratory of Science and Technology of Controllable Chemical Reactions.

Applications for scholarships can be submitted to local Borouge sales offices throughout Asia or online at info@borouge.com.
