Borouge introduces its new generation of polypropylene blown film resins at its Chinaplas technical seminar

Industry leading producer of polyethylene (PE) and polypropylene (PP) materials showcases its high performance packaging solutions during Chinaplas 2010

Borouge, a leading provider of innovative, value creating plastics solutions, organises a technical seminar to introduce its new generation of polypropylene (PP) blown film resins produced with its unique patented nucleation technology on April 20, 2010 at Chinaplas, Shanghai.

“Recent trends in packaging show the shift away from cans and bottles to laminated flexible packaging, regardless of whether it is food or non-food related applications,” says Gilles Rochas, Borouge Vice President for Film & Moulding. “Polypropylene films which were once exclusively produced by cast film technology can now be extruded on conventional blown film extruders.”

Borstar® multimodal PP technology opens new property windows for blown film with superior processability, stiffness, transparency, gloss, toughness, heat resistance, and sealability. At the seminar, Borouge presents the myriad of formulations and combinations, be it in monolayer or co-extrusion film technology, to offer sustainable and profitable packaging solutions to converters.

To meet the growing demand of polyolefins in flexible film packaging, Borouge, a joint venture between the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC), one of the world’s major oil companies, and Austrian based Borealis, a leading provider of chemical and innovative plastics solutions, is expanding its operations in Abu Dhabi to 2 million tonnes of polyolefins annually in 2010. A further expansion will take the plant’s capacity to 4.5 million tonnes per year by the end of 2013.

Strong and flexible packaging options

Leveraging Borealis’ 50 years of experience at the forefront of advanced packaging, Borouge today offers an innovative range of plastics solutions utilising proprietary technologies such as Borstar process technology and Borealis Nucleation Technology (BNT) to deliver unique property profiles.

With their economical processing, weight saving potential and differentiated properties, Borstar enhanced PE and PP solutions are best suited for applications that require combinations of excellent mechanical properties such as stiffness, durability and excellent crack resistance. This results in improved bubble stability and improved film converting for flexible packaging, as well as reduced cycle time for rigid packaging.

Packaging converters are constantly looking for innovations that help provide new types of packaging options, improve the appearance of the goods, and enhance the shelf life of food. Through Borouge’s active partnership with the packaging industry in China, the company is able to share firsthand how Borouge’s plastics solutions are being used in advanced applications ranging from frozen food packaging, stand-up pouches, personal care, boutique bags, security and courier bags, agricultural films, nonwovens and houseware containers.
