About Borouge
Borouge brings the best of European technology to one of the Middle Easts most modern plants and is an expanding force in the polyolefins industry.
Established in 1998, Borouge is a joint venture between two well-established leaders in the industry - the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) and Borealis A/S, one of Europe’s largest polyolefin producers.
Combining good processability with excellent mechanical properties, Borouges Borstar Enhanced Polyethylene products are stronger, lighter, environmentally friendly and easier processed than conventional polyethylene, resulting in material savings of up to 30%.
Borouge’s products are used for the manufacture of high performance flexible and rigid packaging, wire and cable jacketing along with pressure pipe systems for use in agriculture, mining, water, gas and sewage distribution, as well as coating of steel pipelines.
In addition to promoting its own polyethylene, Borouge also oversees the distribution and marketing of Borealis’ speciality polyolefins in the Middle East and Asia Pacific.
Production
Central to Borouge’s success is the US$1.2 billion petrochemical complex in Ruwais, Abu Dhabi in the UAE, which is the first Borstar® production facility in the Middle East and Asia Pacific. The complex came onstream in late 2001, and was officially inaugurated in October 2002.
The 260-hectare complex comprises a 600,000-tonne ethylene cracker and two polyethylene lines, which produce up to 450,000 tonnes of enhanced polyethylene per year. Debottlenecking in 1Q 2005 will raise capacity to 580,000 tonnes.
Marketing Approach
With target markets in the Middle East, East Africa, the Indian subcontinent, and Asia Pacific, Borouge focuses on value creation in differentiated high end applications and providing customers in the plastic industry a range of superior products accompanied by exceptional technical service and logistic excellence.
Borouge's market driven approach means it keeps in touch with its customers’ changing needs by working closely with them throughout the product value chain. This helps to ensure that end-users are presented with new product solutions to create value for the entire plastic industry.
Supply Chain
With production in the Middle East and a customer base in 100 countries stretching across North and South East Asia, India, Africa and the Middle East itself, an efficient logistics system is the key to success for Borouge.
Product is packed in Ruwais, Abu Dhabi in the UAE and sent via roll on/roll off ships to major local depots before distribution direct to customer ports around the world.
The Borouge integrated IT systems means customers experience a seamless ordering process, with competitive leadtimes.
Recent innovations also include the introduction of an elogistics hub - under which Borouge customers will be able to track order status via a secure online environment.
Sales Network
To support the sales of its products to the target markets, Borouge has in place a growing sales network. Sales and marketing efforts are managed out of Singapore, with full-fledged sales offices in Abu Dhabi, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Beijing, Mumbai, Beirut and Saudi Arabia as well as agents in Australia, New Zealand, Egypt, Pakistan, Nepal, Iran, Taiwan, Thailand, Saudi Arabia, Korea, Bangladesh and Vietnam where customers can access an extensive range of polyolefin products, as well as technical expertise.
