Borealis to promote range of healthcare solutions at PHARMtech Congress

Borealis, the leading supplier of plastics solutions for healthcare applications in Europe, will demonstrate a comprehensive range of polyolefin healthcare solutions at the Central & Eastern European PHARMtech Congress 2006 taking place on February 22-23 in Poland. The complete spectrum of healthcare products and solutions will be featured in Expo XXI Warsaw International Expocentre, Poland.

Borealis solutions that will be featured at PHARMtech include:

Bormed™ family of dedicated healthcare polyolefins produced and controlled under strict conditions for injection and blow moulded medical devices and pharmaceutical packaging.

These applications include amongst others single use syringes, needle hubs and catheters, bottles for parenteral solutions, bags and ampoules for IV sterile liquids.

Bormed polyolefins display the complete spectrum of properties and characteristics required by the healthcare market. These range from radiation resistance, transparency and chemical inertness to sterilisability at 121°C and high Environmental Stress Cracking Resistance.

New Bormed SC220CF for polypropylene (PP) transparent cast and blown film.

This new grade features balanced optical and softness properties for medical pouch applications for dialysis fluids, parenteral, enteral nutrition and all other forms of medical liquids.

Borsoft™ SD233CF and Borsoft SA233CF, a base material for transparent and translucent cast, blown film and tubing compounds or coextrusion.

Borsoft PP is primarily characterised by a very high softness and flexibility, a very high tenacity and an excellent low temperature resistance and also sterilization resistance up to 121°C in steam. Compared to block copolymers, random heterophasic copolymers have better optical film properties and very good welding properties making them the ideal solution for medical pouches and lamination.

Unique PP monomaterial blister and lidding solutions as a substitution for the currently used conventional polymeric and multimaterial materials. The major benefits of this monomaterial solution in blister packaging are the superior water vapor barrier, consumer-friendly easy-to-open (push- through) properties and its excellent ecological and economical profile.

According to Anton Wolfsberger, Marketing Manager for Borealis Film & Fibre: “Borealis sees that polyolefins are increasingly becoming the preferred material for healthcare applications due to its balance of properties, and ecological and economical performance. We are looking forward to demonstrate our comprehensive product range and innovations to the growing Central and Eastern European market. In addition to our grade range our solution includes long-term supply guarantees without changes in recipe, a commitment to the highest levels of quality consistency, on-line inspection and joint application development.”
