Belden Supplies Hirschmann Brand MACH1040 Switches to the German Stock Exchange
Switches provide precise synchronization of customers’ systems with commercial applications used by Eurex derivatives exchange
Neckartenzlingen, Germany – November 27, 2012 - Belden Inc., a global leader in signal transmission solutions for mission-critical applications, has supplied the German Stock Exchange with 30 Hirschmann MACH1040 switches. The switches will facilitate a new time service for the precise synchronization of customers’ system clocks with the commercial applications used by the Eurex derivatives exchange at the German Stock Exchange’s colocation data center.
The use of the switches, which support layer 3 routing plus PTPv2 (precision time protocol) and come with highly accurate radio-controlled clocks, makes yet another contribution to the ExServes product portfolio. This incorporates all the services and solutions used to access the commercial systems of the German Stock Exchange.
“The availability of precise reference times for both our commercial applications and the systems of our customers markedly increases the transparency of applications”, says Jan Drwal, head of network projects at the German Stock Exchange. “This new service will transmit timing signals in the sub-microsecond range, in other words with maximum precision and accuracy.”
The synchronization function uses time signals from the GPS system, transmitted via a dedicated LAN network that supports PTPv2 and NTP. “The system uses Meinberg radio-controlled clocks as PTP grandmaster clocks and the Hirschmann MACH1040 switches as the PTP boundary clocks that pass the precise time on to customers’ systems,” explains Drwal.
Experts from the Hirschmann Competence Center held a workshop at the German Stock Exchange prior to the introduction of the new time service. Drwal comments: “The workshop included exhaustive discussions of all the technical aspects. The fast and straightforward implementation was the final clincher.”
