Solution for large cross-connect systems:
Belden introduces new 10GX® IDC System
Belden, a leader in the design, manufacture and marketing of signal transmission products has introduced the company’s 10GX® IDC System, allowing the building of large cross-connect systems which are space-efficient, easy to install and easy to maintain. The system is designed for 10GBase-T applications as a cost-effective alternative to modular patch panels.
Belden’s 10GX® IDC System complements the 10GX Gigabit Ethernet infrastructure and meets TIA/EIA 568B.2 standard. This new high performance, space-efficient system is uniquely engineered to handle 10GBase-T data networking and multimedia applications with headroom to spare.
"Communication hardware is getting smaller and the cross-connect system mirrors that trend brilliantly. Considering the high costs of construction, especially in the Middle East region, Belden has developed this alternative system which not only saves on building space but packs a communication punch which is unequalled.” stated Chris Chandler, Belden EMEA Technical Manager for UK and Ireland.
“Belden's 10GX® IDC System complements Belden's IBDN System 10GX Gigabit Ethernet infrastructure as cutting edge, cost-effective technology at its best," he added.
The system is extremely flexible because it accommodates the configuration of large, wall-mounted cross-connect systems (up to 2300 x 2300 ports in a 6m wall) and the configuration of interconnect systems within racks. Traditionally, interconnects use modular patch panels but the 10GX® IDC System offers a lower cost alternative that is also easier to manage, change, adapt and relocate. The system’s termination kit includes all the components required to terminate 72 cables.
10GX® IDC can be used to build space-efficient, cross-connect fields for horizontal distribution or equipment termination. Typical applications are: Enterprise Network Telecommunications Rooms, Main Distribution Rooms, Consolidation Points, Data Center Main Distribution Areas, Horizontal Distribution Area and Zone Distribution Areas.
The 10GX® IDC System relies on various innovative enabling technologies which are designed to ensure outstanding 10G performance and to facilitate installation.
These technologies include:
Key benefits and features of the 10GX® IDC system include, unmatched 10G performance with guaranteed headroom for 10GBase-T application; truly backwards performance compatibility with Category 5e and Category 6 to help protect cabling investment; connection density of 72 ports per mount to save on cross-connect ‘real estate’, matching GigaBIX density and allowing an easy migration path for 10GBase-T applications; simple, reliable IDC Blocks which improve network uptime; polarization and color-coding for easy, error-free installation; innovative double X-Bar design; cut-to-length punch down X-Connect cables for reduced operating costs and improved network security; termination of connecting blocks using the GigaFlex® connecting tool or any other 110 tool.
Belden has provided a single reference number to make ordering of the termination kit and components very simple. These include the mount, IDC connecting blocks, holders, front and rear termination bars, cable ties and screws needed to complete installation to the mount. An installation guide is also included.
In addition, various system accessories are available including the Vertical Cable Manager and Labelling Kit to control bend radius and allow easy access, the Horizontal Cable Manager (with capacity up to 432 cables) to ease wall layout and a Permanent Link Universal Test Adapter for easy testing.
