AVERY DENNISON LAUNCHES THIN CONFORMABLE PE FILM LABEL FOR THE FOOD INDUSTRY

New Fasson PE-LG to open large-volume premium food market to pressure-sensitive film labeling

LEIDEN, the Netherlands — 28 September 2011 — Among the innovations that Avery Dennison is introducing at Labelexpo is the thinnest conformable PE film label available today for the food market. Fasson PE-LG, with a 70-micron face stock and a new high-tack adhesive, provides benefits for brand owners and label printers in the form of increased shelf appeal and performance and a strong price/performance ratio.

“The food industry is continuously challenged to find new ways to differentiate themselves on the shelf to win consumer preference,” said Joanna Wolska-Kinnening, senior product manager, films for Avery Dennison Label and Packaging Materials Europe. “However, given the ongoing pressure on costs, the industry remains hesitant to migrate to more premium packaging. We are offering a way out of this dilemma, and with Fasson PE-LG, we believe we can convince premium chilled food brand owners to use filmic pressure-sensitive materials.”

This new premium conformable film label material enables brand owners to differentiate their premium brands at the supermarket. For converters, Fasson PE-LG results in more labels per reel, lower waste levels and reduced transport costs. In addition, the new material uses the thinnest PE film in food labeling and a 50g FSC-certified mixed credit liner to make the product even more sustainable.

Fasson PE-LG completes the Avery Dennison thin range of products dedicated to the food market. The product keeps brand image strong during low-temperature storage. The moisture-resistant PE face stock resists wrinkling and retains its looks over time. It also improves conformability on irregular shapes and stands out in chilled compartments. Available in white and clear (for that superb no-label-look), Fasson PE LG labels are ideal for premium foods such as freshly packed meat, sliced sausages and cheese.

High-tack adhesive

The PE-LG comes with a brand new adhesive; the S4020N, which ensures excellent initial tack and very strong adhesion below 5°C. S4020N can be used with many different substrates, including cardboard, plastic films, HDPE, PP, PET and nylon.
