Akcros Chemicals launches new low viscosity bonding agent(in English)

DÜSSELDORF October 25, 2001: Vulcabond MD is the latest addition to Akcros Chemicals' Vulcabond range of bonding agents which improve the adhesion of PVC plastisols to polyester, nylon and other synthetic fabrics.

Like all Vulcabond products, Vulcabond MD is simple to apply, has high bond strengths, minimal odour and contains no inflammable solvents. What makes Vulcabond MD different is the fact that it is composed of a 20% solution of isocyanurate trimer in DINP which makes it far less viscous than other Vulcabond products. Additive levels are 4 - 5% of the total plastisol formulation.

Vulcabond products are used typically to improve the adherence of PVC coatings to synthetic fibres used in heavy duty applications like tarpaulins, where natural fibres' resistance to moisture and bio-organisms is insufficient. In these applications, the characteristically smooth filaments of synthetics have low mechanical adhesion and require an additive to create a strong and durable chemical bond between the fibre and the coating.

Akcros Chemicals has one of the most comprehensive ranges of additives currently available in the international marketplace. As a European market leader, its extensive product portfolio includes plasticisers, stabilisers, anti-static agents and rheology modifiers. In Europe, the company is the largest supplier of additives to the PVC processing industry and is committed to expanding that leadership globally.

Akcros Chemicals is exhibiting under the banner of its parent company, Akzo Nobel, for the first time here at K2001 (October 25 – November 1), and is located in Hall 5, Stand 5A03
