Akcros Chemicals America expands its broad range of biocides for the worldwide plastics industry
DÜSSELDORF October 25, 2001: Akcros Chemicals is a prominent force in thermoplastic additives supply worldwide, as well as being a leading global supplier of biocidal actives for the plastics industry. Akcros Chemicals America (New Brunswick) has recently expanded its broad range of biocides following a series of successful US EPA (Environmental Protection Agency)* registrations and new technology developments.
“We are delighted that our two OBPA based biocides on solid PVC carriers have been registered by the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The first is INTERCIDE ABF-5 SV, 5% OBPA in a polyvinyl chloride homopolymer. The second is INTERCIDE ABF-5 SVC, 5% OBPA in a polyvinyl chloride/polyvinyl acetate copolymer. These products have been developed for use in PVC applications for customers who prefer to handle a solid rather than liquid product and/or would like to reduce their volatile organic emissions,” says Brad Esckilsen, Business Manager Biocides, Akcros Chemicals America.
He adds, “Akcros is also pleased to announce that we have developed a proprietary technology that allows ZnP to be used as an active biocidal ingredient in calendered PVC applications. This was previously not possible, as adding ZnP without an effective heat stabilizer has a negative effect on PVC heat stability.”
The US EPA has also registered two of the company’s low-cost, low-migrating plasticizers, DINP and DIHP, as OBPA carriers, as well as registering 2-ethyl hexanol as a low odor, low sensitizing co-solvent for their OBPA based biocides. The addition of these two plasticizers and 2-ethyl hexanol to Akcros’ product range provides customers with exceptionally wide scope in formulating, so they can tailor the biocide for specific end uses.
Akcros Chemicals is actively committed to the ongoing development of new products that bring added value to their customers. The company’s biocides are based on the active ingredients Oxybisphenoxarsine (OBPA), Zinc Pyrithione (ZnP) and Iodo Propynl Butyl Carbamate (IPBC). These active ingredients are supplied in liquid, powder and solid form so that customers have a broad range of formulating options depending on their particular end use requirements. To help customers to select the appropriate active ingredient and the levels for their particular formulations, Akcros has state-of-the-art microbiology laboratories in New Brunswick, New Jersey (USA) and Düren, Germany. Akcros Chemicals welcomes the opportunity to work with anyone interested in superior biocidal protection.
Akcros Chemicals’ quality, technical support and customer service are the best in the industry. Working closely with their customers, Akcros are dedicated to their total satisfaction.
