SABIC’s new NORYL™ resin offers exceptional CTI and FR properties for ultra-thin-wall insulation film in high-voltage EV batteries

SABIC’s new NORYL™ NHP8000VT3 resin is well suited for insulation film used in electric vehicle (EV) battery modules to increase protection against short circuits and fire propagation.SABIC, a global leader in the chemical industry, today introduced NORYL™ NHP8000VT3 resin, a product well suited for insulation film used in electric vehicle (EV) battery modules to help improve protection against short circuits and fire propagation. This high-performance, polyphenylene ether (PPO)-based resin is engineered with patented technologies to help meet the stringent demands of higher-voltage batteries (600-800 volts). It achieves the highest comparative tracking index performance level category (CTI PLC0), provides ultra-thin-wall extrusion and thermoforming capability, and meets the UL94 V0 standard at 0.25 mm with non-brominated, non-chlorinated flame retardance. NORYL NHP8000VT3 resin provides a novel solution to the drawbacks of incumbent insulation films made with polycarbonate (PC) and polypropylene (PP) by delivering stronger CTI performance and thinner-wall FR capability. This exceptional material can help advance EV battery technology by contributing to occupant safety, weight reduction and higher efficiency for extended range.

SABIC launches new upcycled LNP™ ELCRIN™ iQ resin made with ocean-bound plastic waste to help reduce pollution and support circularity

SABIC introduced LNP™ ELCRIN™ WF0061BiQ resin, a novel material that uses ocean-bound polyethylene terephthalate (PET) bottles as a feed stream for chemical upcycling into polybutylene terephthalate (PBT) resin.SABIC, a global leader in the chemical industry, today introduced LNP™ ELCRIN™ WF0061BiQ resin, a novel material that uses ocean-bound polyethylene terephthalate (PET) bottles as a feed stream for chemical upcycling into polybutylene terephthalate (PBT) resin. Ocean-bound plastic is mismanaged waste that originates within 30 miles (50 km) of the coast and is likely to end up in the ocean. The new grade is the latest addition to SABIC’s extensive portfolio of chemically upcycled LNP ELCRIN iQ materials, which help support circularity while serving as potential drop-in replacements for virgin PBT resins. LNP ELCRIN WF0061BiQ resin is a candidate for consumer electronics applications such as fan housings in computers and automotive seating, as well as electrical connectors and enclosures.

SABIC to debut at PCIM Europe 2022 40% thinner ELCRES™ HTV150A film for further adoption of high-heat SiC inverter technology for xEV

SABIC’s new 3-micron (µm) gauge ELCRES™ HTV150A dielectric film is 40 percent thinner than SABIC’s recently announced 5 µm film and may be used for capacitors in the traction inverters, onboard chargers and electrical compressors of hybrid, plug-in hybrid and battery electric vehicles (xEV).SABIC, a global leader in the chemical industry, will introduce at PCIM Europe 2022, in Hall 7, booth 142, a new, thinner gauge of its ELCRES™ HTV150A dielectric film which may be used for capacitors in the traction inverters, onboard chargers and electrical compressors of hybrid, plug-in hybrid and battery electric vehicles (xEV). The 3-micron (µm) film is 40 percent thinner than SABIC’s recently announced 5 µm film, enabling further volume and weight reductions and greater design flexibility through enhanced energy density for the capacitor. Like the 5 µm ELCRES HTV150A film, this exceptionally thin film maintains stable performance at high operating temperatures up to 150°C and addresses the critical performance gap experienced by traditional polypropylene (PP) films above 135°C. This new level of thermal performance helps customers to increase the adoption of SiC power modules with smaller package size due to the higher energy density, reducing weight while providing greater efficiency and performance desired for increased xEV adoption by consumers.
