TIELT, BELGIUM – December 20 2006 – A multi-part beer-tap system, injection-molded by Quadrant CMS (Creative Moulding & Systems) from polypropylene, is a critical, consumer-interfacing component on the new 5-litre, single-use Draught Keg from Heineken Beer Systems. Its production represents a first venture into the beverage market for Quadrant CMS while pursuing its strategy of developing and producing polymer-based parts for function-critical systems. Heineken opted to work with Quadrant CMS due to the company’s technical ability in injection molding and assembly, high level of automation and partnership approach.

Kaller Kunststoff Technik GmbH (KKT), a specialist in the production of plastic bottles for the food, beverage, cosmetic and paint industry, has selected a biaxially oriented polypropylene (PP) grade from Borealis to manufacture injection stretch blow moulded (ISBM) bottles for water-based paint. The choice of this material gives KKT a competitive edge in this specialised market traditionally dominated by extrusion blow moulded high density polyethylene (HDPE)-based bottles. Lower production costs, improved aesthetics and better impact resistance are among the advantages provided by Borealis’ PP ISBM grade RF926MO.

Leiden, The Netherlands - Fasson MC Perlé -- a special wet-strength pearlescent facestock -- is the latest addition to the Fasson range of self-adhesive materials for wine labelling. It offers a tactile finish as well as a subtle silver sheen for labels on high-value vintages, and joins the existing range of dedicated wine labelstocks in Avery Dennison Roll Materials Europe's extensive wine labelling catalogue, Preferred Product Portfolio, and Fasson Ideas Book. Together, these three sources offer a choice of 40 different self-adhesive product combinations for Europe's wine trade.

Borealis brings a new polypropylene Borpact™ grade to film converters and product manufacturers, which offers solutions to the packaging industry due to a unique combination of good low temperature resistance, high stiffness, high heat resistance plus excellent optical properties. Food packaging, pouches, peelable lidding film and film bottle labels are among the application areas set to benefit from Borpact BC914TF. With this development, polypropylene can be used in a number of new sectors, such as in labelling and modified atmospheric packaging (MAP) trays for meat and fruit. Borpact BC914TF is available through Borouge, the distributor and marketer of Borealis’ speciality polyolefins in the Middle East and Asia Pacific.
