Solvay partners with BETA Technologies for Advanced Air Mobility Platform
Solvay has been appointed as primary composite material supplier to BETA Technologies, an electric aviation company based out of Vermont, with an office in Montréal, Canada. Solvay will provide BETA with qualification support and advanced materials for the production of their ALIA CTOL, electric fixed-wing aircraft, and ALIA VTOL, electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft, developed for a variety of applications, including medical, cargo and passenger transportation.

Clariant Catalysts fosters decarbonization research in China through sponsorship of NCC Award
Clariant, a sustainability-focused specialty chemical company, today announced the laureate of China’s National Congress on Catalysis (NCC) Achievement Award 2023: Prof. Dr. Xinhe Bao. Presented by the Catalysis Society of China, and sponsored by Clariant, the NCC Achievement Award recognizes an individual for outstanding accomplishments in catalysis research in China. The recipient, Prof. Bao, is a highly respected catalyst expert, with extensive experience in clean and efficient energy conversion. The award was extended to Prof. Bao by Weixing Gu, Clariant’s Head of Catalyst R&D China, during the opening ceremony of the conference on July 22 in Kunming, China.
Solvay, a global market leader in polymer and composite materials, signed a long-term agreement with Zotefoams, the world’s largest manufacturer of lightweight cross-linked polyolefin block foams and a specialist in innovative technical foams, for the supply of Solef® polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF). Solef® will be used to produce Zotefoams’ ZOTEK® F high-performance closed cell crosslinked aerospace foam range. The collaboration will target a wide range of interior applications in aerospace including ducting, carpet underlay, environmental control systems and insulation, where low weight, high flame retardancy and cost-effective processability are paramount.

Solvay and Spirit AeroSystems (Europe) Limited have strengthened their relationship as Solvay becomes a strategic partner of Spirit’s Aerospace Innovation Centre (AIC) in Prestwick, Scotland. The AIC facilitates collaborative research into sustainable aircraft technologies and processes with Spirit’s industrial, academic and supply-chain partners. Both companies intend to further engage on composite development opportunities to meet the performance, cost and production-rate requirements of future aircraft.
