The company has created a new high-performance compound based on aerospace carbon fiber technology coupled with Ultem* polyetherimide (PEI) resin, creating a space-age solution to replace heavier airline-grade die-cast and machined aluminum for aircraft interiors components, slashing weight by up to 50 percent. Vaupell, a global contract manufacturer of custom injection-molded components and assemblies with 60 years of experience, is working with SABIC Innovative Plastics to validate the new Ultem resin materials in aircraft seating components

These new high-end products are helping global aircraft OEMs reduce weight by up to 50 percent to conserve fuel and lower emissions; meet tough flame-smoke-toxicity (FST) regulations; reduce overall system costs; and enhance the aesthetics, safety and comfort of the cabin environment. BERGEN OP ZOOM, The Netherlands – May 25, 2010 – SABIC Innovative Plastics’ commitment to helping builders and architects strengthen sustainable building designs by increasing energy conservation, all while improving working and living environments has led to another industry game-changer – new 1000 mm-width Lexan* Thermoclick* polycarbonate (PC) 50 mm sheet system. This new high-tech material greatly facilitates installation ease, while also providing customers with superior high-performance, energy efficiency and excellent high-end aesthetics. Twice the width of competitive products, the new 50 mm gauge, Lexan Thermoclick sheet is virtually unbreakable and delivers a thermal insulation U-value that can reduce energy consumption up to 17 percent vs. traditional high-return, double-pane glass glazing. This outstanding new interconnecting sheet system has recently been selected by Hakvoort Daglicht B.V., a daylight production and construction company based in the Netherlands, for cladding and façade.

BERGEN OP ZOOM, The Netherlands – May 21, 2010 – Through co-development efforts with SABIC Innovative Plastics, Japan’s Nissei Eco Company Ltd. has created a unique solution to significantly reduce the environmental impact of wire harness insulation. That solution is ECO-01 tubing, a wire insulation product made from SABIC Innovative Plastics’ Flexible Noryl* resin. This high-tech resin is inherently flame retardant (FR) and free of environmentally harmful heavy metals. It also provides OEMs of home appliances and other products with high heat performance without expensive secondary operations. SABIC Innovative Plastics’ continued investment in high-performance, green technologies is helping customers like Nissei Eco accelerate the creation of differentiated, environmentally progressive end products in an array of markets worldwide.

The stadium’s transparent, curvilinear walls are constructed from SABIC Innovative Plastics’ tough and virtually unbreakable Lexan* Exell D polycarbonate (PC) sheet, which adds incredible elegance, high performance and environmental benefits. Recognizing the strategic contribution of Lexan sheet technology to the stadium, the European Polycarbonate Sheet Extruders (EPSE) honored SABIC Innovative Plastics with its 2009 Best Project and Innovation Award. This is the second EPSE award for SABIC Innovative Plastics. In 2008, the company won the Best Innovation category for the Metro Station Carmes in Toulouse, France – whose roof is also made from Lexan Exell D sheet. The products were also certified for the more stringent GREENGUARD Children & SchoolsSM product emissions standard.
