DSM Engineering Plastics has expanded further its Green Portfolio with the introduction of EcoPaXX™, a bio-based, high performance engineering plastic. The new material, which is based on polyamide (PA) 410, has been developed by DSM in recent years, and is now set to be commercialized.

In its latest move, the company is helping customers create new sustainable solutions by delivering a first: two products in a new line of LNP* Thermocomp* specialty compounds that use curauá fiber and wood flour natural reinforcements. The new bio-based materials are being launched here today at NPE 2009 in SABIC’s booth W123011 and underscore SABIC Innovative Plastics’ commitment to a cleaner and healthier environment. Simultaneously the new materials are showcasing how the company is also giving customers greater options to create next-generation sustainable solutions to differentiate their products, grow current markets, expand into new sustainable market and application areas, and increase overall productivity and profitability.

URMOND (NL), June 8, 2009 - Mainstream Group, the Norwegian based global leader in salmon farming, has placed an order for an additional 28 PLEXUS® nets made of Dyneema® - the world’s strongest fiber™. The new order follows a three year trial period of using Dyneema® based cage nets from major Norwegian manufacturer and official DSM Dyneema licensee MøreNot AS, which has yielded a range of performance, economic and environmental benefits.

BERGEN OP ZOOM, The Netherlands – June 5, 2009 – The Association of the Dutch Chemical Industry (VNCI), presented SABIC Innovative Plastics with the Responsible Care Award 2009 yesterday, during the VNCI annual meeting in The Hague. The company was honored for its efforts in developing a polybutylene terephtalate (PBT) based product portfolio using discarded polyethylene terephthalate (PET) plastic, usually found in disposable materials like drinking bottles. The material, using a proprietary process, consumes less energy and yields less carbon dioxide (CO2) through its entire manufacturing process compared to traditional resins.

Gent, 7 May 2009 – Minister Patricia Ceysens, Minister of Economy, Enterprise, Science, Innovation and Foreign Trade of Flanders, Belgium, and Acting Managing Director Cees Kortleve of the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs gave the official starting shot for Bio Base Europe on Monday 27 April. This Flemish-Dutch collaborative project will transform the Gent-Terneuzen Canal Zone into the most important centre for the bio-based economy in Europe. By applying technological innovation and training, this initiative will speed up the transition to a sustainable, bio-based economy.
