Innovative modular systems and products from Moog for wind turbine pitch control provide extra advantages in safety, reliability and reducing the overall cost of energy. A pitch system monitors and adjusts the angle of the wind turbine blades that controls the rotation speed of the rotor.

Presentation of the Quadrant Award 2013
Zurich, January 31, 2013 - Quadrant, a global leader in the manufacturing of high-performance thermoplastics and composites, conferred the coveted international «Quadrant Award» for the fifth time on Friday, January 25, 2013. The international invitation to submit entries for the award was addressed to graduates who had written a doctoral thesis in the field of «Materials and processes related to engineering and high-performance plastics and composites» between October 1, 2010, and September 30, 2012. Of the four prizewinners, the Japanese researcher Dr. Nobuhiro Yanai won the first prize of EUR 15 000. Dr. Yanai wrote his thesis at Kyoto University, Japan and is now assistant professor at Kyushu University, Japan. The other three Quadrant Award winners, who have won prizes of EUR 5 000 each are (in alphabetical order): Dr. Shelby B. Hutchens (USA), California Institute of Technology, USA, post-doctoral position at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, USA; Dr. Sangwoo Lee (South Korea), University of Minnesota, USA, post-doctoral position at the University of Minnesota; and Dr. Neil D. Treat (USA), University of California, Santa Barbara, USA, post-doctoral position at Imperial College London, UK. The event took place at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) in Zurich, Switzerland.

These permit the reliable transmission of analog and digital data, even in environments with strong electromagnetic fields. The connectors are available as either single-ended or double-ended cordsets for actuators/sensors, Profibus and Ethernet cables, and connection cables. Neckartenzlingen, Germany – January 22, 2013 - Belden Inc., a global leader in signal transmission solutions for mission-critical applications, has launched in the EMEA region the OCTOPUS Train-BP, a new managed IP67 switch in its Hirschmann product range. This switch, which is available with 8, 16 or 24 Fast Ethernet ports (10/100 BASE TX), has been especially developed for use in trains. It fulfills all the specific EMC and fire prevention requirements for rail vehicles and also has numerous redundancy mechanisms plus two uplink ports with bypass relays. This means that connections between neighboring switches are maintained even when an OCTOPUS fails.
