Muttenz, 16 May 2011 – Specialty chemical company Clariant hosted the ModEurop workshop on colors for Autumn/Winter 2012/2013 at its premises in Leinfelden/Germany on May 2 and 3, 2011. While the influential color authority had analysed the basic themes in advance, the workshop provided the opportunity for its members to decide - on the overall color palette for the season still some eighteen months away.

New Research by SABIC Innovative Plastics Underscores Importance of Lexan* PC Auto Glazing for Extended EV Range and Reduced Emissions
BERGEN OP ZOOM, The Netherlands – May 10, 2011 – At the VDI conference SABIC Innovative Plastics announced compelling new findings on the benefits of Lexan* polycarbonate (PC) glazing. Lexan PC automotive glazing has already established itself as a weight reducing technology that can result in lower fuel consumption and lower carbon dioxide emissions. Now, advanced computer analyses of the thermal insulation benefits of Lexan* PC automotive glazing have quantified the material’s potential to reduce the load on heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems based on the significantly lower thermal conductivity of PC vs. glass. The new findings underscore the value of using Lexan PC glazing to help drive improved efficiency for conventional, hybrid and electric vehicles. The findings come from the research and development team of Exatec*, LLC, SABIC Innovative Plastics’ dedicated automotive glazing subsidiary.

The first new product is a Cycolac* acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene/polycarbonate (ABS/PC) resin for elegant, low-gloss parts that eliminates the costs, wear problems and environmental downsides of secondary painting. The second innovation is a Geloy* polycarbonate/acrylonitrile styrene acrylate (PC/ASA) resin that provides permanent anti-static performance for a fresh, clean appearance of interior parts. Muttenz, 13 April 2011 – The Swiss specialty chemical company Clariant has published its 2010 Sustainability Report. Over the course of 60 pages, the company describes how sustainability and innovation go hand in hand along Clariant’s entire value chain. The data, which are collected at all operating levels and in all regions and consolidated at Group level, demonstrate that Clariant has made great progress with key parameters in recent years. Between 2005 and 2010, CO2 emissions decreased by more than 40%, energy consumption fell by 35% and water consumption dropped by 30%. The Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), a globally renowned, independent organization for sustainability reporting standards, performed a critical review of the report and confirmed adherence to application level A, its highest reporting level. “Clariant sees this as an obligation to continue to work on the area of sustainability and to make improvements.
