Rochester Hills MI, 4 March 2010 – Sarlink TPV has announced that a new distribution partnership between Entec Resins S.A. de C.V. and Sarlink is official since January 1, 2010. Sarlink has found a new business relationship in Entec, which will supply Sarlink’s products to the plastics and rubber industry in Mexico. Entec will be Sarlink’s sole distribution partner for all Sarlink grades from now on. In this way, Sarlink is able to provide better service and the best possible supply solutions for its customers throughout Mexico. This distribution partnership is a significant step to support and drive Sarlink’s position in the growing market of thermoplastic vulcanizates (TPV).

The joysteer® X-by-wire system with precision gears made of Stanyl® PA 46 resin from DSM Engineering Plastics is now in commercial production for the handicapped market and available from car modification companies in Switzerland, Germany and the Benelux. This rapid development from prototype to successful commercialisation was achieved by the Swiss company Bozzio within record time of just three years. In this period, Bozzio obtained the strictest level of safety approvals for the European market (TÜV approval according to ECE-R 13H braking system and ECE-R 79 steering system), making joysteer®x-by-wire commercially available to provide people with a disability a user-friendly solution to drive a car with safety and confidence. This is the first system with such a high safety level.

DSM Engineering Plastics, a business group of the Netherlands-based Life Sciences and Materials Sciences company Royal DSM N.V., today announces that it has signed the contracts with Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation (MCC) enabling DSM to acquire MCC’s Novamid® polyamide business in exchange for DSM’s Xantar® polycarbonate business.

• Sales in 2009 down 14% in local currency and 18% in CHF
• Operating income before exceptional items decreased to CHF 270 million in 2009 from CHF 530 million in 2008
• Cash flow from operations improved to CHF 757 million from CHF 391 million in the previous year
• Net debt reduced to CHF 545 million from CHF 1,209 million in 2008
• As part of the ongoing asset network optimization program, further measures are being implemented, affecting production sites in Muttenz (Switzerland), Resende (Brazil) and Thane (India)
• Outlook 2010: Clariant does not foresee a sustainable recovery of the global economy. As a consequence, Clariant expects sales growth in local currencies in the low single-digit range. The operating income margin before exceptionals is expected to rise above 6%. Cash flow from operations will remain strong but below the levels of 2009.
