BERGEN OP ZOOM, THE NETHERLANDS — Two new revolutionary thermoplastic technology platforms in the works at GE Advanced Materials introduce a new chapter in the company’s tradition of enabling automotive exterior body panels that offer a balance of lightweight performance, reliable properties against impact, and competitive cost. High Modulus Ductile (HMD) and High Performance ThermoPlastic Composites (HPPC) may signal two advanced materials solutions for automotive engineers who require weight reduction, design flexibility, improved moldability, and impact protection for large body panels. These technologies were developed to help respond to the growing demand from consumers to produce more stylish automobiles with greater interior space, higher speed, and optimized performance.

BERGEN OP ZOOM, THE NETHERLANDS – GE Advanced Materials, Automotive has developed new Pedestrian Impact Protection materials and design innovations to help automotive manufacturers and tier suppliers with the design of front-end safety systems. In GE’s new, front-end safety concept, energy absorbers molded from the company’s XENOY* resin are positioned directly behind the vehicle’s fascia to help cushion possible impact. GE has developed the concept to help meet European Union (EU) pedestrian protection legislation due to come into effect in 2005.

Novi, Mich., February 9, 2005 – To meet demand in the fastest growing segment of the worldwide composites market, Owens Corning and RheTech, Inc., today announced a licensing agreement under which RheTech will manufacture and sell in North America a proprietary long-fiber glass/polyolefin thermoplastic (LFTP) developed by Owens Corning. RheTech intends to market these new products under the RHEMAX trade name.
