VW GOLF AIRBAG DEPLOYS SAFER THANKS TO BETTER COLD WEATHER PERFORMANCE OF AIRBAG COVERS MADE WITH ARNITEL® TPE-E FROM DSM
The new Volkswagen Golf A5 driver-side airbags, with covers moulded of Arnitel® thermoplastic elastomer ether ester block copolymer (TPE-E) from DSM Engineering Plastics, deploy more safely thanks to the material’s outstanding low-temperature properties. No cracking or splintering has been observed in covers made of Arnitel® PM471 in cold deployment testing at temperatures as low as -35 °C, outperforming competitive materials. Iwis, a major European supplier of automotive chain systems as well as chains and components for industrial applications, uses two grades of Stanyl® (PA46) from DSM Engineering Plastics for timing chain tensioners on the Porsche Cayenne engine. One Stanyl grade with outstanding wear resistance, TW341, is used for the top layer that presses on the timing chain. Stanyl TW241F10, the second grade, exhibits high stiffness, making it ideal for the base of the tensioner.
Univar’s Dureal presentation attracted a large audience at the IAA Commercial Vehicles, the international trade fair for trucks and delivery vans that was held in Hanover, Germany, from 23 to 30 September. Truck dealers and transport companies from around Europe visited the stand in the central area of the fair to learn about Euro IV and Euro V exhaust emission standards, SCR catalytic converter technology, and the Dureal service solution for AdBlue tanks.
