Brenntag Oil & Gas cleans Total pipeline with compressed air and achieves a lower explosion level of 0%
Brenntag Oil & Gas Europe recently cleaned a 140 km / 60.96 cm crude transport line at Total Refinery in Vlissingen, The Netherlands, with N-SPEC® cleaning chemicals. Compressed air was applied as a propelling agent to transport the pigs through the pipeline, a technique hardly ever seen before in Europe due to the higher risks involved. Thanks to N-SPEC®’s patented cleaning properties, Brenntag was able to remove all hydrocarbons from the pipeline and as such bring the lower explosion level (LEL) down to a unique 0%. Peter Verkiel, Product Manager at Brenntag Oil & Gas Europe and manager of the project, elaborates on the topic.

Brenntag Oil & Gas offers a safe alternative for catalyst pre-sulphiding
Brenntag Oil & Gas Europe, one of the largest worldwide chemical distributors, offers through their partner, Lubrizol Corporation, the next generation catalyst sulphiding agent: SulfrZol® 54. With a flash point of 100 ºC, this product is much safer than traditional sulphiding agents, such as DMDS (di-methyl di-sulphide). Looking at current developments within the industry, which are forcing refineries to increase their levels of safety, Brenntag sees this as the best available product in the market. Th. M. Perfect symbiosis of time and N-SPEC® of Brenntag Oil & Gas
Brenntag Oil & Gas Europe, one of the world’s leading suppliers in pipeline cleaning services, recently managed to open an offshore 7.3 km, 6 5/8” crude trunk line with N-SPEC 50 dispersant/solvent. The line, which belongs to Petromar, Romania’s offshore petroleum exploration company, had been obstructed for six years and previous efforts to open it had failed. It took almost one and a half years before the N-SPEC crew managed to open the line. Peter Verkiel, European Product Manager N-SPEC products & services at Brenntag, elaborates on the project.

Brenntag goes offshore with yellow rated N-SPEC® 50 pipeline and system cleaning chemical
N-Spec® 50, a dispersant /solvent developed by Brenntag Oil & Gas, has recently been tested in Scandinavia for aquatic toxicity, biodegradation and bioaccumulation in marine environments. These tests are universally accepted in the North Sea countries and are recommended by the Ospar guidelines. Based on this test data N-Spec® 50 is classified in Norway as yellow, which means that it is an acceptable chemical for use offshore (rating: green and yellow are accepted, red is to be replaced after a certain period of time and black is not allowed). Compared to other dispersants/solvents like xylene, diesel and toluene, N-Spec® 50 is a preferred alternative thanks to the better environmental properties.
