Univar Purchases Spanish Chemical Distributor
Rotterdam, The Netherlands – April 7, 2006 – Univar N.V. (Euronext Amsterdam: UNIVR), a world leader in chemical distribution, today announced that its Univar Europe business unit has acquired 100% of the stock of JSM Chemicals S.A., based near Valencia, Spain. The acquisition was completed on April 6, 2006. For the calendar year 2005, JSM recorded net sales of approximately EUR 13 million.

Toledo, OHIO, EUA - 28 de fevereiro de 2006 – A Owens Corning (OWENQ.OB) anunciou na Conferência e Exposição de Energia Eólica Européia em Atenas e Grécia, um tecido de malha e roving direto contínuo, WindStrand™, que permitirá ao mercado de energia eólica um avanço na competitividade bem-sucedida com outras fontes de energia alternativas, reduzindo o custo por kilowatt-hora (kwh). O produto permitirá que os fabricantes de turbinas aumentem os comprimentos das lâminas em no máximo seis porcento e entreguem até 12 porcento mais potência - com um custo menor de até 20 porcento em relação a qualquer outra solução híbrida de fibra de vidro/carbono da concorrência atualmente no mercado.

DNV Certification B.V. als eerste certificatie-instelling geaccrediteerd voor OHSAS 18001-certificering
Rotterdam, 5 april 2006 – DNV Certification B.V. heeft op 22 maart 2006 door de Raad van Accreditatie (RvA) formeel bevestigd gekregen dat DNV de OHSAS 18001-accredatie ontvangt. OHSAS 18001, Occupational Health and Safety Assessment Series, is een norm voor arbomanagementsystemen. Na een goedkeuringsproces van ruim twee jaar is DNV Certification B.V. de eerste van slechts vier certificatie-instellingen die geaccrediteerd is door de RvA om OHSAS 18001-certificaten te verstrekken.

Dyneema® vs. Steel Wire: Deeper, Stronger, Tougher
Urmond (NL), April 5 - Deep-sea installation of sub-sea hardware projects now have a high-technology alternative to traditional steel wire rope that offers a significantly longer lifespan, lighter weight and greater safety. Rope made with super-strong Dyneema® fiber from DSM has been shown to outperform steel wire rope when used to place heavy equipment at extreme ocean depths greater than 3km. Testing by TMT Technologies in Huntington Beach, CA, showed that an 80mm rope made with Dyneema®, the world’s strongest fiber, withstood more than twice the number of bend cycles of steel wire. (number of bend cycles where 50% of steel wire is discarded)
