Four SABIC thermo-optical resins among first thermoplastics listed in Zemax OpticStudio® database
SABIC, a global leader in the chemical industry, today announced that four of the company’s thermo-optical resins have been added in the materials database of the Zemax OpticStudio®, the industry-standard in software for designing optical systems. These high-performance materials – including two grades of high-temperature LEXAN™ CXT polycarbonate (PC) copolymer, an ULTEM™ polyetherimide (PEI) resin and an EXTEM™ polyimide resin – are among the first resins to be added to OpticStudio®, giving designers of optical sensors and lenses new and innovative material choices beyond glass and epoxy resins. The SABIC’s thermoplastics are designed to offer major advantages over these traditional materials like faster processing speeds and the possibility for freeform optics.

Recommissioning of SABIC’s PPE operations at Bergen Op Zoom creates local employment opportunities
Last year, in response to customer needs, SABIC announced plans to recommission operations at its Bergen op Zoom PPE resin plant in the Netherlands with a phased ramp-up in production across 2020 to produce polyphenylene ether (PPE), the base resin for its line of NORYL™ resins and oligomers. Increased customer demand for NORYL™ resin – used in a vast range of industries such as water management, automotive, solar, industrial and electrical – prompted the capacity expansion plans.

SABIC to preview first digital composites manufacturing line at JEC WORLD 2019, demonstrate versatility of UDMAX™ tape
SABIC will highlight the progress of its Digital Composites Manufacturing line, a breakthrough in automated digital system for rapid, large-scale laminate manufacturing, via a 360-degree virtual reality experience at JEC World 2019 (Hall 6, stand P12). SABIC acquires majority stake in carbon nanotube business for energy storage applications
SABIC announced today that it has taken a majority stake in Black Diamond Structures (“BDS”), a nanotechnology company established in 2014. BDS produces and commercializes MOLECULAR REBAR®, a proprietary technology of modified carbon nanotubes that offers great potential for enhancing the performance of energy storage applications using lead-acid and lithium-ion batteries.

SABIC, PLASTIC ENERGY en Renewi zetten een eerste stap in chemisch recycleren van gemengd plastic afval in Nederland
SABIC, PLASTIC ENERGY en Renewi vinden het belangrijk dat de chemische recycling in Nederland toeneemt. Immers, chemische Recycling pakt niet alleen het probleem van de plastic afvalstromen aan, maar draagt bovendien bij aan de verlaagde uitstoot van broeikasgassen. Vorige week kondigde SABIC (een wereldleider binnen de chemische industrie) aan dat zij samen met PLASTIC ENERGY Ltd. (een Britse pionier in de recycling van chemische kunststoffen) en Renewi (toonaangevend internationaal waste-to-product bedrijf) een geavanceerde oplossing ontwikkelen voor de recycling van gemengd plastic afval in Nederland. Dit is een eerste belangrijke stap. Echter, de inzet van chemische recycling moet worden versneld, zodat de circulaire economie een effectieve impuls krijgt en het milieu wordt geholpen. Dit kan alleen met verdere stimuleringsmaatregelen vanuit de overheid en initiatieven van meerdere belanghebbenden.
