Largest-ever Rear Quarter Window in SABIC’s LEXAN™ Resin Debuts on Buick’s New-generation GL8 MPVs

SAIC General Motors’ (SGM) new-generation Buick GL8 and GL8 Avenir luxury multi-purpose vehicles (MPVs) feature the world’s largest rear quarter window, which measures a record-breaking 1200mm by 450mm. This glazing part is 40 percent (3kg) lighter than a comparable glass window and also has design elements that cannot be achieved with glass, which contributes to the more innovative exterior of the new-generation GL8. The window is two-shot injection compression molded at Ningbo Shentong’s facility in Yuyao City, China, using SABIC’s LEXAN™ resin, a transparent polycarbonate (PC) material, and CYCOLOY™ resin, a PC/acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (ABS) material (used for the blackout area). A silicone hard coating protects the parts against abrasion and weathering.Sittard, The Netherlands, January 17, 2017 - SAIC General Motors (SGM) has launched in China its new-generation Buick GL8 and GL8 Avenir luxury multi-purpose vehicles (MPVs), which sport the world’s largest polycarbonate (PC) rear quarter window, molded from SABIC’s LEXAN™ resin.
