Clariant introduces new phthalate-free PolyMax® 600 Series performance catalysts for polypropylene
Clariant is launching its next-generation phthalate-free olefin polymerization catalysts, expanding its portfolio to include a new offering to meet the most demanding customer toxicity requirements. Developed in partnership with McDermott’s Lummus Novolen® Technology, the new PolyMax 600 Series catalysts answer the market’s increasing need for safer polypropylene solutions.

Clariant’s ShiftMax® 300 MTS catalyst delivers excellent performance at BHCC hydrogen unit in Zhejiang, China
The partnership between Clariant and Shanghai Huaxi is off to a successful start. Since the establishment of their strategic alliance in late January of 2018, the two companies took on a major joint project to enhance the hydrogen production unit of Zhejiang Baling Hengyi Caprolactam Co Ltd (BHCC), located in the Xiaoshan district of Hangzhou in Zhejiang, China.
Clariant’s CATOFIN catalysts have been selected by Advanced Global Investment Co. (AGIC), a joint venture between Advanced Petrochemical Company (APC) and SK Group, to build a PDH facility in the Middle East. Clariant’s CATOFIN catalysts were selected due to the excellent performance and reliability of APC’s existing propylene plant in Saudi Arabia.
The first commercial reference for Clariant’s ReforMax 330 LDP Plus catalyst is a major success. Installed at OCI Nitrogen’s ammonia production plant in Geleen, Netherlands, the new steam reforming catalyst has significantly reduced pressure drop, allowing the customer to benefit from a considerable increase in energy and production efficiency leading to savings of more than 300,000€ over the catalyst lifetime.
Clariant Refinery Services, a global leader in developing additives for better fuel transportation, has opened a new state-of-the-art crude and fuel oil laboratory that will focus on applications for transport and storage. Based in Bradford, United Kingdom, this global center of excellence will support a highly experienced technical services team equipped to address multiple challenges experienced by refineries, storage terminals, pipeline providers, and logistic companies all around the world.
A new record for the MOL Group, and another highly satisfied customer for Clariant. In July 2017, MOL installed Clariant’s SynDane catalyst at their Danube maleic anhydride production plant in Százhalombatta, Hungary, for the first time. The unit reached its nameplate capacity of 22,000 metric tons per annum already a few weeks after start-up. Now, the plant’s latest figures reveal that the excellent performance and operability of the catalyst boosted productivity in 2018 by 17% versus its previous all-time high, allowing MOL to achieve its highest maleic anhydride yield to date.
